It is crunch time in high school baseball across the state as classifications 1A through 6A enter the first.round of the state playoff this weekend while 7A teams wrap up area play this week and begin their playoffs next weekend (April 26-27). In all classifications in the first round, area runner up teams are on the road the first round while all area winners will host. Each round is a best 2 out of 3 series with the state finals being held in Montgomery May 14 through 28. There are some very intriguing first round matchups this weekend. Class 7A

Teams in Alabama's largest classification play their last area series this week to finalize area winners and runner ups. Some spots have already been locked up while other spots are still up for grabs. Many schools played game 1 on Tuesday while others will play game 2 on Wednesday. Due to expected rains statewide on Thursday many 7A games have been moved to Wednesday, from Thursday. Here are the scenarios in each 7A area. 

Area 1

Baker and Alma Bryant will settle the area winner this week. 

Theodore will be the area runner up. 

Area 2

(2) McGill Toolen needs one win vs. Murphy to wrap up the championship. 

Foley and Fairhope will settle the area runner up this week. 

Area 3

Enterprise and (10) Prattville square off in their area series this week, The winner of the series will be the area winner and the other will be the runner up. 

Area 4

Central Phenix City and (7) Auburn square off this week in the area series to determine the area winner and runner up. 

Area 5

(3) Hoover sits at 4-1 and still has 1 game left vs. Thompson

(4) Oak Mountain is 3-2 with 1 game vs. Tuscaloosa County left

Thompson is 2-3 (with 1 game left vs. Hoover)

Area 6

(4) Hewitt Trussville is 4-1 with 1 game left with Mountain Brook

(5) Vestavia Hills is 4-1 with a game left with Spain Park.

Huntsville is the area winner.
