PUEBLO — One of the most prestigious summer tournaments in the Rocky Mountain region takes place at the Runyon Sports Complex Thursday through Sunday.

Twelve teams — six from Colorado and six from out of state — will play for the coveted title that covers four days and 36 games.

The host team — Loaf ’N Jug from Pueblo — joins five other Colorado teams in the tournament including powerful Cherry Creek, 4-Corners from Durango, Grand Junction, Parker and defending champion Greeley. Teams from out of Colorado include Cheyenne, Burkburnett (Texas), Elk City (Oklahoma), Albuquerque (New Mexico), Farmington (New Mexico) and Las Vegas.

Joe Andenucio, the ’Nuch tournament director, is excited for the 35th event.

“Here we go with No. 35,” Andenucio said. “We’ll start things off by feeding all the teams (Wedneday night) and have the DiIorio Tournament in conjunction with our tournament on the other fields.”

This year’s Pueblo entrant — Team Loaf ’N Jug — is coached by Terry Montoya. It has a distinct Pueblo flavor with seven players from East, four from South, two from Centennial and one apiece from Central and Rye. Three players on the roster are from outside of Pueblo.

Team Loaf ’N Jug plays two games Thursday, one Friday and two Saturday. Ten games will be played on both Hobbs and Andenucio fields on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Matchups for Sunday will be determined following Saturday’s play. The championship game will be played at 7 p.m. Sunday.
