Prep Baseball Report

Unsigned Senior Q and A with Tyler Frank (Adrian HS)

By Mike Penn

Tyler Frank, OF/INF, Adrian, Class of 2012

Frank is a solid athlete standing at 6-foot and 195-pounds.  A former football player that drew interest from Division 1 football programs across Michigan, Frank has decided to turn his attention fully towards baseball. As a player his biggest strength is his speed.  He also possesses solid hands and arm in the field.  He could be a good late find for a program.

PBR: You were going to play football at Central Michigan but since have decided to play baseball in college. Can you talk about that decision?

Frank: Well originally I was going to go play football at Central, but when i made that decision I was still banged up from my Senior season in High School. I made the decision in late December when my heart and soul was still in football mode. I was in the process of talking to a coach at Central and getting everything straightened out for the upcoming fall when the phone calls between us just stopped. We lost contact in January and I have not heard from him or the university since. Then I started to realize how much I love baseball and then turned my interest to collegiate baseball.

PBR: Where are you currently in the recruiting process?

Frank: Well apparently I've been told that since people thought I was going to play college football I didn't get many looks for baseball. So currently right now I am without a scholarship looking to walk on.

PBR : What level of baseball do you see yourself playing at the next level?

Frank: I want to play at the highest level. I want to see where I gauge with the guys that got the big scholarships, and see if i can play with those guys. Why shoot for anything less?

PBR: What schools are you most interested in right now, and why?

Frank: Right now I am most interested in Central Michigan University. I love the campus, and Mt. Pleasant reminds me of my hometown. CMU is a great place to be and I would love to be given the opportunity to play baseball there.

PBR: What aspect of your game do you believe needs the most improvement?

Frank: Well with the way pitching is evolving I would say hitting. Pitchers are getting better and better, and hitters need to be evolving as well. Guys are able to blow a fastball by you, then come back with a change-up that makes you corkscrew yourself into the dirt. So I just try to get better everyday, because in the words of Gordie Theisen "If you're not getting better, you're getting worse."

PBR: As a player what is your greatest strength?

Frank: I would say my greatest strength is my speed. I'm able to beat out some ground balls that I shouldn't beat. When batting right handed I'm already at a disadvantage to the quick lefties, but my speed allows me to get down the line quick enough to rival their times to first.

PBR: How is your summer season going up to this point?

Frank: Right now we're doing alright. We shoot ourselves in the foot sometimes and it costs us games, but that'll turn around. We're starting to peak at the right time I think, we just need to stay focused and keep playing the game hard.

PBR: What are your current stats?

Frank: Honestly I couldn't tell you. I'm not a big numbers guy, so I don't really pay attention to my personal stats. It's not really a big deal to me to bat .400 and have 20 home runs, I'd rather win as a team.

PBR: What is your GPA? ACT or SAT score?

Frank: I graduated with a 3.9 GPA and a 20 ACT.

PBR: Have you decided on a major or narrowed it down?

Frank: I have no idea what I want to study in college, I'll figure it out in the first year or so.
