Unsigned Senior Spotlight: Catcher Ian Woodall

By Chris Fuller
Kentucky Scouting Director

Ian Woodall, C, Logan County HSwoodall

Ian Woodall is a 5-foot-10, 190 pound catcher with a strong frame who has shown good defensive skills at multiple events, including the Unsigned Senior Games in August at Northern Kentucky University and the Fall Prospect Program in October at Western Kentucky University.

At both events, Woodall has shown solid receiving and blocking abilities behind the plate with 75 mph arm strength from the crouch.  He has a fairly quick glove to hand exchange with pop times that have ranged from 1.90-2.05, with most being right around the 2.00 mark.

At the plate, Woodall hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and uses his strong lower half to generate bat speed.  He showcased the strength in his swing with a 92 mph exit velocity off the tee and runs well for his stocky build with a 4.50 home to first base time from the right side.

Woodall, ranked No.74 in the 2014 class, will provide good senior leadership behind the dish this spring as Logan County will attempt to advance out of the 4th region with back-to-back trips to the State Tournament in Lexington.
