In 2023, our staff would like to take a look at a Virginia/DC high school team that had a big week and earned the honor of Team Of The Week.

This week the final award of the 2023 high school season goes to the James Madison Warhawks. Madison captured its sixth State Championship overall, second in the last three years, and fifth under current Head Coach Mark 'Pudge' Gjormand.

The Warhawks bounced back from a 10-inning loss to Concorde District Rival Westfield in the Region 6D Championship game to roll through the Class 6 State Tournament. A comfortable quarterfinal win on the road over West Springfield sent them to Friday's semifinal doubleheader at the Jubilee site. A packed crowd on Friday afternoon so Madison fall behind 3-0 and being no-hit through five innings by Colgan senior Matthew Westley (Virginia Tech). A leadoff single in the sixth chased a gassed Westley and the Warhawks were able to grind out a four-run rally to take the lead and then hang on to win, 4-3.

On Saturday, in the Championship Game, the Warhawks face Westfield for the fifth time this spring, and this time got the better of the Bulldogs, coming from behind for a 5-4 win, with senior RHP/1B Bryce Eldridge (Alabama) closing out the win.
