Virginia Summer Top Performers: Outfielders

It was a busy summer this year at PBR Virginia, with multiple events across the commonwealth ranging from Liberty University, Old Dominion University, Virginia Sports Complex, and Virginia Tech University. This series will take a look at top performers of the summer regardless of the class. Take a look and enjoy.

Summer Top Performers: Outfield

Ryland Brown OF / Greenbrier Christian, VA / 2020

Underclass Games 6/20/18

Brown is still available as a uncommitted 2020 outfielder, but that may not last long

Brown is 6-2 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a wide balanced stance, short stride on line minimal load back. His rotate completely with some explosion and some balance during his swing. Very short and quick to the ball, whippy through contact with extension, swing is slightly uphill and he has the potential to drive ball to all fields, showed a slight pull preference in his round but showed ability to use whole field, exit velocity was 93. In the outfield, gets body behind ball and fields it while playing through, fields with average hands. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a shorter arm action, outfield velocity was 82. Speed is a tool, ran a 4.19 home to first.

 

 

Luke Burner OF / LHP / Highland School, VA / 2019

Unsigned Senior Games 8/7/18

Burner has recently committed to West Virginia Wesleyan

Burner is 5-10 with an athletic frame and added strength, he has some projection left to it. He hits from the left side from an open athletic stance, good rhythm with a low leg kick stride on line, short smooth load back, hips rotate completely with some explosion and he maintains good balance during his swing. Short level line drive swing, showed barrel ability and can use the whole field, has some power to pull side, exit velocity was 87, chance to hit for high average with some doubles at the next level. In the outfield, quick clean exchange, gets body behind the ball and plays through it, fielding towards his target and fielding with above average hands. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 83 with accuracy. Ran a 7.43 60 yard dash.

 

 

Trey Carter OF / RHP / Carlisle, VA / 2020

PBR Future Games 8/1/18

Carter committed to Florida State University last month.

Athletic projectable frame at 6-foot-4, 197-pounds. One of the most exciting prospects that came through the Future Games. High end skill set across the board with a rawness that shows best years are yet to come. Ran a 6.89 60-yard dash. Hits from an athletic set up with bat on shoulder. Heel lift to swing. Explosive hand speed at the plate with a direct path and some extension through contact. quiet lower half with explosiveness. Power to pull side. Exit velocity of 100 mph. Atheltic actions in the outfield. Clean exchange with sound arm action and life on throws from the outfield, getting up to 95 mph. In game showed flashes of what he could be with loud contact in game. On the mound has a controlled compact delivery with average leg kick.Tight, sound arm action with lightining arm speed. Smooth lower half and backside drive. Inconsistent at getting hips through and over front side. Fastball was inconsistent in zone but showed life up to 93 mph. Breaking ball showed flashes of a dominant secondary pitch up to 75 mph with 11/5 shape. A draft prospect already. Still has areas of his game to clean up that, once it happens, could turn Carter into a higher end draft prospect.

 

 

Bryson Dansberry OF / 2B / Nansemond River, VA / 2020

Top Prospect Games II 8/8/18

Dansberry committed to Radford later this summer

Dansberry is 5-8 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He is a switch hitter, from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, loads down and back into a wrap, hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains some balance during his swing. Short to ball, uphill path with extension through it and strength at contact, showed slight pull preference, exit velocity was 84. From the left side, exit velocity was 78. In the outfield, has speed, rounds ball and fields with above average hands that are fast, quick clean exchange. Athletic defender. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a fast arm and lots of carry, position velocity was 82. Showed versatility taking balls in the infield as well, velocity was 80.

 

 

Trent Jones OF / RHP / Cape Henry, VA / 2020

Underclass Games 6/20/18

Jones is still uncommitted

Jones is 6-1 with a lanky frame that has a ton of projection left. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, smooth load back, explosive hips rotate completely, maintains good balance in lower half. Short to ball with some strength at contact and some whip in his bat as he extends, slightly uphill bat path, line drive swing with pull preference and gap power with a chance to add more, exit velocity was 88. In the outfield, good feet, gets behind ball and plays through it into his exchange, quick clean exchange. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a quick loose arm, outfield velocity was 85.

 

 

Jaron McNeil OF / RHP / Dinwiddie , VA / 2021

Underclass Games 6/20/18

McNeil committed to Va Tech shortly after the Underclass Games

McNeil is a recent Virginia Tech commit and is 6-2 with a lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance. Short stride on line, smooth load back, rhythm to his swing, explosive hips rotate completely while he maintains balance. Short to ball with some bat speed, extension through the baseball and some whip to his bat, good barrel awareness, line drive swing with an uphill finish, showed good approach using whole field, exit velocity was 84. In the outfield, gets behind ball and plays through it to exchange, fields with above average hands. Clean exchange throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a loose quick arm and some carry on his ball, outfield velocity was 87. Has speed, ran a 4.21 home to first. On the mound throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short, lightning quick arm action and normal effort. Shoulders close off and he lands slightly closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 79-82, touching 84, with downward plane and some late run to it. Curveball was 69-71 with good armspeed and hard 10/4 break.

 

 

Craig Miles, Jr. OF / SS / Battlefield, VA / 2019

Miles is still available

Miles is 5-9 with a strong athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He is a switch hitter, from the right side he hits from an open athletic stance, short stride on line, loads back into a bar, hips have violence and he maintains good balance during his swing. Slightly uphill path with some extension through ball, used whole field, strong at contact, more of a line drive swing from right side, exit velocity was 84. From the left side, he hits from an open upright stance, short stride on line, loads back into a wrap, hips rotate violently and he maintains good balance during his swing. Uphill path, short to the ball with strength at contact with some extension through ball, pull preference and exit was 85 from the left side. In the outfield, clean feet, rounds ball and fields with above average hands, quick clean exchange working through the ball. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 73. Ran a 6.85 60 yard dash.

 

 

Thomas Trinca OF / 1B / Centreville , VA / 2020

PBR Future Games 8.1.18

Trinca is a top underclassmen outfielder still available in the commonwealth

Athletic, projectable frame at 6-foot-1, 170-pounds. Ran a 6.85 60-yard dash. Hits from a wider, slightly open set up at the plate. Weight shift back to hitting position with slight arm bar. Level swing path at the plate with fast bat speed. Shows a nice ability to get barrel to the ball. Has some looseness in his hands and very good hand eye in game. Good balance at the plate and some rhythm. Exit velocity of 93 mph. From the outfield has good feet and clean hands with a quick and whippy arm action from the outfield Throws showed carry on them up to 89 mph. A riser from the event, Trinca went 6-for-7 with two walks at the plate with his lone out being a 12-pitch at bat that ended in a scorched line-out to center. Trinca showed great in game balance at the plate and found barrel in numerous at bats. Showed plenty of hitterish tendencies

 

 

Nathan Wildasin OF / Walsingham , VA / 2019

Wildasin is still avaiable

Wildasin is 6-3 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an upright open stance, short leg kick stride on line, smooth load back, hips rotate violently and he maintains good balance during his swing, has rhythm. Short to ball, slightly uphill path with strength at contact and a quick bat, showed a slight pull approach, exit velocity was 89. In the outfield, rounds ball and fields off to the side with above average hands, quick clean exchange. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 78. Ran a 7.25 60 yard dash.

 

 

Jacob Williams OF / 3B / Liberty Christian Academy, VA / 2019

Top Prospect Games 6/19/18

Williams committed to Middle Tennessee State within a month after the Top Prospect Games.

Williams is 6-3 with an athletic frame that is strong and still has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, short leg kick stride on line, smooth load back with a bit of a wrap. Hips rotate violently and maintains good lower half balance during swing. Short and slightly uphill to contact with extension through the ball, very strong at contact with a pull power approach, exit velocity was 90, definite home run power to his pull side with potential to have it to all fields in the future. At third, rounds ball and has clean feet, fields with a good wide base and soft hands. Plays through to a clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, infield velocity was 80. Showed versatility by taking balls in the outfield as well. Ran a 4.34 home to first.
