Power 25 Rankings: Week 2

Brian Walker
Scouting Director

With the season in full swing, The top 5 sees some shake up, but the top two spots remain the same with Springdale Har-Ber and White Hall holding onto the top two spots. With lots of conference games beginning this week, the top 25 will be battle tested and don't be surprised to see more movement as teams have heavy schedules coming up.

the top

+ Har-Ber: Coming off the AR First Pitch Classic Championship win, the Wildcats had a week off in preparation for their 7A West opening week verse #12 Rogers. With Conference play opening up, the rested Wildcats will look to stay on top.

+ White Hall: playing two one run games against Monticello and LRCA winning both, a big week ahead as they take on #4 Sheridan and #9 Bryant . Tough tasks ahead but White Hall hasn't disappointed so far.

+ El Dorado: After a big week of games, 4 in 4 days, El Dorado soares up the board into the top 5 after knocking of undefeated Magnolia handily in a mid week matchup. They also notched victories against Warren, Monticello, and Camden Fairview. Big matchups this week against Lake Hamilton and a potential matchup against #2 Ranked pitcher Connor Noland on Thursday against Greenwood. Good test for El Dorado after a good week last week.

+ Sheridan: With a double header sweep of Malvern at the Sheridan Classic, Sheridan has a top 5 matchup against El Dorado in a double header and another match up on Thursday against Malvern.

+ Cabot: After losing to Har-Ber in the AR First Pitch Classic, Cabot responded with two  victories over 7A West Bentonville and Rogers Heritage.

ON the move

+ Greenbrier: Having moved up 14 spots after being tested in Louisiana to begin the season, Greenbrier swept a double header against Beebe and won a 1 run game against 7A Conway. Big week ahead with a matchup against Benton and a double header on the road at Russellville.

+ Van Buren: The Pointers look to continue their quality play after winning two games last week against Wister Ok, and Siloam Springs. Opening Conference Play in the 7A west will show us if the Pointers are mainstays in the top of the rankings.

+ Bryant: Slowly but surely Bryant keeps climbing the ranks. A young team has a busy week with games at Northside and White Hall and a home matchup against Catholic.

New to Rankings

+ Genoa Central comes into the Top 25 after winning 5 games last week. Tall task ahead as they face off with Nashville on the road to start the week.

+ Piggott: having won 3 games last week against Cave City, Walnut Ridge, and Hoxie, Piggott climbs into the Top 25 in a top heavy 3A-3 Region.

+ Elkins: off to a 5-0 start Elkins has shown an offensive explosion. outscoring their opponents 41-5 Elkins looks to have both offense and pitching working in their favor early on in the season.

+ Benton: coming in at 5-1 and with their only loss being to #2 White Hall, Benton had wins against Ashdown, Horatio and Arkadelphia this past week. With a top 25 matchup at Greenbrier we will see quickly if Benton is here to stay and make some noise in the rankings to come.

+ Clinton:   7-1 to begin the year Clinton had a huge week with wins over Heber Springs, Ozark, Booneville, and Atkins. Clinton went 3-0 in the Dover Tournament outscoring their opponents 44-4 last week. With a lighter amount of games scheduled look for Clinton barring a misstep, to continue to move up the rankings.

Dropped out:

+Greenland: After going 2-2 Greenland record now falls to 5-2 on the season. with 4 games this week look for the Pirates to get back on track with conference looming in the near future.

+Ouachita: After going 2-3 on the week in the Southwest classic Ouachita faced their first set back on the young season. Not counting out a big week for the Warriors to get back on track and head back towards the rankings.

+Mayflower: Toughest move here but after falling to 7-3 the Mayflower Eagles slide out of the top 25. The Eagles were able to respond after losing three in a row to sweep Lonoke. Look for the Eagles to find their way back into rankings sooner than later.

+Hot Springs: Losing its only two games of the week to Lakeside and Camden Fairview the Bobcats find themselves looking to rebound this week on the road against De Queen and Hope.

+Greenwood: Despite a stellar performance by Connor Noland the 2-1 loss to Alma kicked out the Bulldogs from the Top 25. With big games ahead this week including a matchup with El Dorado and Van Buren, the Bulldogs could be right back in the rankings with a solid weeks work.
