Winter Unsigned Senior Showcase: Position Player Analysis

On Saturday, February 14th, PBR Indiana hosted its annual Winter Unsigned Senior Showcase at the Incrediplex in Indianapolis, IN. A total of 31 unsigned seniors participated in the event including 16 position players.

Outfielders

Jarrett Simon, OF, Frankton HS, 2015: 6-foot, 165 pounder moves well in the outfield with soft hands. Plays through the baseball well with some athleticsm. Ran a 7.30-60. Offensively, the LHH starts closed. Short stride. Front arm bar during the load. Level path to the ball. Lacks use of the lower half. Flat bat, bat stays in the zone for a long time. Recorded an exit velo of 81 mph.

C.J. Vaughn, OF/SS, Ben Davis HS, 2015: 5-foot-11, 170 pound athletic senior. Projects more as an OF than a MIF. From the OF possesses quick feet and plays through the ball. Moves well laterally. Possesses some arm strength at 85 with accuracy. Ran a 7.20-60 at the event. From SS showcased soft hands with a clean exchange. Has some range. Across the diamond was 80 mph. Offensively, the LHH this from a tall, narrow setup. Smooth load. Slight toe-tap. Closes himself off after the stride. Quick hands with a good approach. Line drive hitter with fluid rhythm. Cuts himself off. Registered an exit velo of 78 mph.

MIDDLE INFIELDERS

Chase Clarkson, 2B/3B, Michigan City HS, 2015: 5-foot-11, 185 pounds possesses an athletic frame with some strength. Possesses average hands in the field. Plays through the baseball well. Clean exchange. Across the diamond was 73 mph. Ran a 7.9-60. At the plate hits from a balanced setup. Slight leg kick. Loads back, front arm bar. Hands drop during the load causing an uphill path to the baseball. Recorded an exit velo of 79 mph.

Shawn Feagin, 2B/MIF, La-Salle Peru HS (IL), 2015: 5-foot-11, 155 pounder possesses clean actions up the middle. Shows average hands and plays through the ball. Ran a 7.5-60 and was 76 across the field. At the plate starts balanced using a short stride. Loads back with a small stride. Uphill path to the baseball. Registered an exit velo of 76 mph.

Jake Hobson, 2B/MIF, Roncalli HS, 2015: 5-foot-7, 150 pounder possesses athletic, clean actions in the field. Projects as a 2B at the next level. Accurate arm across the diamond at 73 mph. Ran a 7.3-60. Offensively, possesses an athletic swing. Loads back and uses a short stride. Good use of the lower half. Possesses above average bat speed. Good approach. Short, level path to the ball, high contact hitter produces line drives. Registered an exit velo of 84 mph.

Kyle Matter, 2B/MIF, Cardinal Ritter HS, 2015: 5-foot-11, 180 pound MIF possesses average hands with fluid feet. Clean exchange. Overall solid defender. Across the diamond was 79 with some carry. Ran a 7.95-60. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a wide base. Smooth load with no stride. Average bat speed with a good approach. Tendency to over rotate the lower half. High contact hitter produces hard line drives. Registered an exit velo of 84 mph.

Cody Moncel, SS, Lutheran HS, 2015: 5-foot-8, 165 pounder possesses average hands defensively with a clean exchange. Moves well. 76 across the diamond with accuracy. Ran a 7.25-60 at the event. Offensively, hits from a slight crouch setup. Short stride with average use of the lower half. Average bat speed, level path to the ball. High contact hitter.

Skyler Ramberger, 2B/MIF, Lawrence North HS, 2015: 5-foot-9, 155 pound MIF showcased average hands in the field. Flat feet with some stiffness. Fields it clean. 74 across the field with a quick release. Ran a 7.80-60. At the plate starts from a balanced setup. Smooth load back, long stride. Overall good approach with a level path to the ball. Recorded an exit velo of 74 mph.

Luke Rehn, 2B/MIF, Milan HS, 2015: 5-foot-8, 145 pounder possesses soft hands with average arm strength. Nothing flashy, but makes all plays. Across the diamond was 73 mph. Ran a 7.50-60. At the plate uses a short stride. Lacks lower half. Dives to the ball. Contact type hitter. Good balance throughout the swing. Registered an exit velo of 69 mph.

CORNER INFIELDERS

Seth Adams, 1B, Greenfield Central HS, 2015: Big, physical 6-foot-3, 240 pounder. Showcased solid actions in the field. Moves well for his size. Across the diamond was 78 with accuracy. Offensively, starts open and loads back. Leg kick, long stride. Glides and lacks hand separation. Showcased quick bat speed with gap to gap power with occasional HR power. Registered an exit velo of 94 mph. Strong player.

Rhett Baxter, 1B, Lafayette Harrison HS, 2015: 6-foot-3, 230 pound 1B possesses a big, strong frame. Works well at 1B. Clean exchange with soft hands. Offensively, starts in an open setup. Short, compact swing with quick hands. Good balance throughout. Fluid rhythm. Needs to improve use of the lower half. Registered an exit velo of 90 mph. Ran a 7.32-60. Recently committed to St. Joe’s.

Collin Bice, 3B, DeKalb HS, 2015: 5-foot-10, 170 pound 3B was 71 across the field and ran a 7.45-60. Fluid feet, but lacks speed. Clean exchange with overall average defensive actions. Offensively, hits from an open stance and uses a short stride. Good balance. Uphill path, finishes two-handed. Recorded an exit velo of 79 mph.

Tyler Hill, 1B, Fairfield Union HS, 2015 (OH): 6-foot-1, 185 pound 1B was 80 across the diamond from a short, high ¾ arm action. Possesses average hands defensively, quick release. Ran a 7.6-60 at the event. At the plate hits from an athletic stance with a wide base. Little to no stride. High activity throughout the swing. Does show above average hand speed and barreled up the baseball consistently. Registered an exit velo of 92 mph.

Drew Naumovich, 1B, Roncalli HS, 2015: 5-foot-11, 230 pound 1B possesses clean, soft hands at 1B Average arm across the diamond at 73 mph. Ran a 7.69-60. At the plate the LHH starts balanced with a smooth load. Short stride, with average use of the lower half. Showcased some bat speed. Uphill path with pull-side power. Registered an exit velo of 85 mph.

Andrew Robinson, 1B, Orleans HS, 2015: The 6-foot-2, 225 pound 1B was 68 across the diamond. Fielded most balls clean, but lacks mobility. Ran an 8.01-60. Offensively, hits from a crouch setup using a long stride. Wide base. Quick load, choppy rhythm. Flat bat through the zone. Registered an exit velo of 84 mph. Strong player with occasional pop.

Tanner Stout, 1B, East Central HS, 2015: 6-foot-5, 215 pound 1B possesses a tall, lean frame with a quick arm. 85 mph across the diamond. Overall actions at 1B are raw. Offensively, starts tall and loads back. Hands drop during the load. Uphill path. Possesses some twitch. Projects more on the mound.
