Bryan RHP Matt Wisler has the ability to be difference-maker at Ohio State

""With Matt Wisler, first-year Ohio State head coach Greg Beals is hoping lightning strikes twice, that he can nab his second program-changing top prospect by way of Bryan High School.

In 2007, then the head coach at Ball State, Beals was able to land two-way player KolbrinVitek. Three seasons later, Vitek was an All-American and first-round draft pick of the Boston Red Sox. Now the hope is that Wisler can become a marquee player for a Beals? program, this one being Ohio?s largest  university.

In the 6-foot-2, 175-pound right-handed pitcher, Ohio State has a recruit that has three polished pitches - fastball, curve and slider - with his fastball reaching as high as 91 mph. As of May 4, Wisler has helped lead Bryan to a 13-4 record and a No. 9 ranking in the Division II Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association.

As one of Ohio?s top prospects, the probability is high that Wisler will have his name called during the MLB Draft. Wisler?s draft status, however, doesn?t dampen the excitement of Beals and his Ohio State staff.

?We saw a guy in Wisler that I really liked his pitchability,? said Beals. ?His ability to use three pitches, fastball, curveball, slider, and probably even four pitches with his changeup,  is what we really liked. There might be a few guys in the state with maybe a little more arm strength than him, maybe a bit faster with the top-end fastball, but I don?t think there is a guy in the state that pitches better than him.

?He?s a very competitive young man. He comes from a competitive family with having an older brother that has pushed him and helped him grow. There are a lot of intangibles that I like about Matt Wisler; we see a bright future.
