Final Class of 2011 player rankings

Goodbye Class of 2011, thanks for the memories. For four years we?ve covered this talented group and, alas, we?ve come to the end of the road (sigh). In conjunction with the release of the new Prep Baseball Report magazine, here are the final Class of 2011 rankings.

We rank the top 150 prospects in the state, a difficult task considering the immense amount of talent in the class. Teutopolis LHP Derek Thompson climbed to No. 1 spot after his nearly perfect senior season in which he led the Wooden Shoes to another Class 2A state championship by allowing only one earned run all season behind his three-pitch mix and 88-92 mph fastball, which he located with pinpoint precision (112 Ks, 7 walks, 62.1 IP).

Right behind Thompson is New Trier OF Charlie Tilson, who was selected in the second round by the St. Louis Cardinals. Downers Grove South RHP Nick Burdi, Rock Falls RHP/INF Jake Junis, Providence Catholic 3B Sam Travis, Oak Forest OF Tim Barry, Hersey RHP Joe Perricone, Ottawa RHP Joe Ceja, St. Charles East LHP Wes Benjamin and Breese Central LHP Bryant Holtzmann round out the top 10.

All class rankings, along with features on the Prep Baseball Report All-State teams, state champions, and much more can be found in the new Prep Baseball Report 60-page magazine. Don?t have a subscription? Click Here to subscribe.
