Rockford Boylan’s 6-foot-4 left-handed SIU-bound Tyler Dray slammed the door on Rockford Guilford over the last 3 2/3 innings, as Boylan (8-2; 3-0) rallied past Guilford 8-5 on Friday. Titan junior R.J. Roberts drove in four runs, with a two-run jack and a huge game-tying double, as the Titans won the NIC-10 showdown.

 

Dray improves to 2-0 on the season. Rockford Guilford (8-4; 2-1) was led by its Valparaiso University-bound RHP Cyrus Wimberley (4-2), who had three hits for the Vikings and suffered the complete-game loss.Wimberly fanned 9 Titan hitters.

 

No.15 Granite City’s (14-2) Louisville-bound senior catcher Jake DePew was a single short of hitting for the cycle and drove in seven runs in the Warriors’ 17-0 five-inning win over Cahokia. DePew doubled, tripled and hammered his second homer of the year as the Warriors continue to roll. DePew is hitting .467 with two homers and 18 RBI for 2010. Not to look ahead but….a week from Tuesday, April 27th, the Warriors travel to O’Fallon.

 

Kankakee (8-5; 3-0), the leaders in the new Southland Conference, rolled past Crete-Monee 17-11 in a Southland Conference game. The Kays were led by KoShawn Mosely and Cody Netzel. Mosley had five hits, including a homer and had 3 RBIs. Netzel doubled twice and plated four for the first-place Kays.

 

No.1 Harrisburg (20-0; 6-0) became the first team in Illinois to win its 20th game of the season, as the Bulldogs routed Massac County 16-6 on Friday. The Bulldogs hit four homers in this SIRR-Ohio battle. SIU-bound Kollin Dowdy, senior Dawson Montfort and juniors Keelin Rasch and Cain Sheldon went deep for the top-ranked Bulldogs.

 

Looking ahead…..next week the Bulldogs will travel to Benton (13-3; 4-2) on Friday and then go to SIRR-Mississippi foe Du Quoin (12-6;4-2) in a crossover Saturday morning at 10 and then face Southwestern Conference co-leader O’Fallon (10-6) at 12:30 in Du Quoin…

 

Benton (13-3; 4-2) kept pace with Harrisburg with an 8-6 SIRR-Ohio win at Murphysboro (9-7; 3-3) on Friday. Ranger sophomore SS/RHP Tyler Leffler hammered a three-run bomb in the top of the seventh to give the Rangers the 8-6 lead and then came in with one out and put out a Red Devil rally to earn the save. The home run was the fifth for the hard-hitting sophomore.

 

In the Fox Valley Conference, Crystal Lake South (7-6; 5-2 Valley) handed Prairie Ridge (8-5; 4-1 Fox) their first FVC loss of the season, 8-4. The Gators were led by senior Billy Wright, who had a 4-for-4 day with a double, triple and three RBI.

 

Jacobs (5-6; 3-4 Valley) stunned No.18 Grayslake Central 8-7. The Golden Eagles were led by Jacob Kranz, who homered and drove in four runs. Grayslake Central (10-3; 4-1 Fox) suffers its first FVC loss.

 

Huntley (11-1; 5-0 Valley) won a wild won against Crystal Lake Central 11-10. Senior Chris Klein led the Red Raiders to this Fox Valley crossover win. Klein homered doubled and drove in three runs and then picked up the save with 1 1/3 innings of shutout relief.

 

Coal City (10-6; 4-0 North) defeated Peotone 9-0 in an Interstate 8 crossover. Senior RHP Colt Smith fired a two-hit shutout at the Blue Devils, striking out 10. Smith improved to 3-1 on the mound for the Coalers.

 

Herscher (11-4; 4-0 South) hammered Plano 19-4 behind the booming bat of 6-foot-4 left-handed hitting Jordan Ruckman, who had three hits, including a homer and three RBI.

 

Lisle (11-4; 3-1 North) kept pace with Coal City in the North as the Lions rolled past Manteno 13-7. Clemson bound RHP John Surber (3-0) picked up the win on the mound and  had a monster game at the plate. Surber, was a single shy of the cycle, hammered his fifth home run as well as hitting a double, triple and driving home six runs for the victorious Lions.

 

Sandburg (7-5; 1-1) defeated Lincoln-Way Central 4-2 in a Southwest Suburban Blue battle in Orland Park on Friday. Sandburg’s 6-foot-3 senior lefty Rob DiDomenico (2-0) picked up the win on the mound for the Eagles. Senior Nick DeWolf had a pair of hits and an RBI. Juniors Brant Valach and Nick Bates had an RBI double. L-W Central falls to 11-4; 1-1 in the SWC Blue.

 

Andrew (8-5; 1-1) was led by NIU-bound Jeff Zimmerman, who homered and drove in three runs as the T-Bolts routed Lincoln-Way West 15-1 in a Southwest Suburban Red contest on Friday. Lincoln-Way West falls to 7-5; 1-1 in the SWC-Red.

 

Joliet (7-7; 1-1) scored six runs in the top of the seventh to stun Homewood-Flossmoor 6-2 in a Southwest Suburban Blue battle at H-F (10-2; 1-1). Tyler Brown and Brian Kapinus struck for a pair of two-run singles, erasing a 2-0 Viking lead. Illinois State-bound catcher Mike Hollenbeck added three hits for the Steelmen. Eric Sowa fired a complete-game four-hitter at H-F, striking out seven.

 

Lockport senior Josh Johnson stroked a game winning two-run double in the bottom of the eighth as the Lockport (9-5) rallied past Richards 6-5 on Friday. Johnson had three hits and three RBIs for the Porters.

 

Marian Central Catholic improved to 9-2 with a big nonconference win over Carmel 11-8 on Friday. Hurricane 6-foot-3 senior RHP Dave Parr improved to 5-0 with a complete-game performance against the Corsairs. Senior Casey Dipietro drove in three runs and Parr helped himself with a pair of RBIs. Alex May homered for the 6-3 Corsairs.

 

In the Upstate 8 on Friday, Lake Park (10-3; 4-2) was ambushed by Elgin Larkin 15-5 in six innings as Larkin senior third baseman Scott Harm had a perfect 4-for-4 day and drove in four for the Royals….No.10 St. Charles North (10-2;3-1) rebounded from Thursday’s 22-6 debacle against Waubonsie Valley and defeated the Warriors 6-2 behind the piching of senior left hander Ryan Hudspeth (2-0). Hudspeth allowed one run and two hits through five innings. Sophomore John Brodner drove in a pair for the NorthStars and third baseman Kevin Borst doubled and had an RBI for STC North….

 

St. Charles East (10-4; 4-2) rolled past Bartlett 11-5, and defending champs Neuqua Valley (7-3; 4-1) won behind a pair of hits and five RBIs from Chris Medhurst as the Wildcats defeated South Elgin 10-0 in five innings.

 

Oak Forest (19-3; 5-1) received a complete-game performance from sophomore Tim Funkhouser, and junior Tim Barry had a 4-fo-4 day with a homer with four RBI as the Bengals crushed Evergreen Park 13-2.
