No. 36 Rock Falls (7-1) erupted for five runs in the top of the eighth to hand No. 28 Granite City (7-2) its second consecutive defeat 7-2 in eight innings in a nonconference game Thursday.

 

Junior Brett Chappell drove home three for the Rockets, including a clutch 2 RBI single in the fateful eighth. Senior RHP Trevin Hippen improved to 3-0 on the mound for the Rockets. Hippen threw two shutout innings in relief of Rock Falls starting pitcher junior RHP Jake Junis. Junis threw the first six innings, allowing but one earned run. Junis fanned 8.

 

Lincoln-Way West junior RHP Cody Vogler fired a three-hit a shutout and struck out 10 as the Warriors blanked L-W Central 10-0. Ryan Burleson homered as L-W West evened their record at 3-3. L-W Central drops their second consecutive game and is 5-2.

 

On Thursday, Bartlett senior catcher Greg Partyka (Bradley) hit a pair of homers and drove home six runs in an 18-16 loss to Prospect.

 

Lake Park improved to 4-0 behind the bat of junior third baseman Zach Tsiodras. Tsiodras homered and drove home five runs in an 11-1 win over Glenbard North.

 

No. 34 Waubonsie Valley (2-2) bounced back from their loss to No.1 Naperville Central and routed West Chicago 16-1. Senior RF Jeff Brown homered and drove in five runs to lead the Warrior assault. Senior RHP Sean Smith evened his record at 1-1 on the mound. West Chicago falls to 6-2.

 

Streamwood’s 6-foot-2 senior RHP Mike Diebold (1-2) homered and fired a five-inning shutout in leading the Sabres to a 10-0 victory over Dundee-Crown. Streamwood improves to 3-3. Dundee-Crown falls to 3-4.
