Mundelein junior LHP Borucki picks his school

By Sean Duncan

""Ryan Borucki, 6-foot-3, 165-pound left-hander from Mundelein HS, has verbally committed to the University of Iowa. Borucki, who?s ranked No. 16 in the Class of 2012, is one of the state?s most projectable talents.

Blessed with a quick, loose arm and a long, wiry frame, Borucki catapulted up the rankings in the offseason when he showed 85-88 mph velocity at the Super 60 Pro Showcase. He also has excellent feel for a changeup and curveball. Borucki, who?s 3-0 this season, is a big reason why unbeaten Mundelein is currently ranked No. 2 in the state. Borucki marks the second Class of 2012 prospect Iowa has landed from Illinois, along with Marian Catholic 3B Devin Pickett.

With Borucki off the board, eight of the top 20 ranked junior prospects in the state are now verbally committed.

In other recruiting news, Kevin Hallberg, an athletic 6-foot-3, senior RHP/OF from Thornton Fractional South HS, has committed to South Suburban College. Hallberg impressed at the Prep Baseball Report Unsigned Senior Showcase in January with an easy mid-80s fastball and an athletic swing at the plate.
