NJCAA World Series Preview: Division II

Heading into Enid, OK, the JUCO Wire staff previews how each team secured their spot in the world series as well as looking ahead at their first matchup. Gameplay kicks off at 11 a.m. EST on Saturday, with No. 8 seeded Kellogg taking on No. 9 Des Moines Area, and the World Series will take us through the next week.


+ LSU Eunice (52-7)

Top Prospect(s): SS Dawson Willis, OF Collin Husser, RHP Blake Lobel, RHP Alec Beversdorf, RHP Owen Schexnaydre

The Bengals have been one of the most successful junior college programs for some time now. Now with back-to-back 50 win seasons and earning the No. 1 seed the Bengals will look to win their first national championship since 2021. Having swept through the postseason thus far the Bengals will take on the winner of Kellogg and Des Moines Area on Sunday.

+ Brunswick (48-8)

Top Prospect(s): 1B/OF Colby Thorndyke, UTL Branton Jernigan, RHP Josh McCusker

Earning the No. 2 seed the Dolphins were able to secure their spot in Enid by winning the Region 10 and South Atlantic District. After going 1-1 in their first two postseason games Brunswick would win their next five straight earning them a spot in the World Series.

+ East Central (MS; 51-7)

Top Prospect(s): OF Trey Bridges, RHP Luke Cooley

The Warriors secured an at-large bid and the No. 3 seed for the World Series after losing to Meridian and Jones in the District tournament. East Central has one of the stronger resumes and has been battle tested throughout the season with a number of quality Region opponents and some challenging non-region games early in the season.

+ Heartland (43-16)

Top Prospect(s): SS/OF TJ Williams, OF Corey Boyette, OF Kaden Griffitts, RHP Jacob O'Day

The Hawks are going back to Enid after taking home the championship last season. This year as the No. 4 seed they will face the winner of St. Johns River State and Westchester after receiving a bye for the opening round.

+ St. Johns River State (38-23)

Top Prospect(s): RHP Aaron Potter, OF Nathan Gagnon, OF Michael Furry, 1B Andon Lewis

After a FCSAA state championship, the Vikings went on to defeat Coastal Alabama in the South Districts. Offensively this is an experienced group of sophomores that are leading the charge at the plate, on the mound they have an experienced group of players with a mix of freshmen stepping up along with the sophomores.

+ Madison (37-12)

Top Prospect(s): LHP Michael Carpenter, RHP Eli Hoyt, OF Charlie Marion, C Will Johannes

The Wolfpack make their way back to Enid for their sixth consecutive season. What has become more of an annual trip for the Wolfpack, Madison has gone 6-1 in postseason play so far with the only loss coming to Kankakee in the Districts.

+ Southeastern (IA; 43-17)

Top Prospect(s): INF Michael Farina, INF Cooper Schulte, INF Cole Smith

The second at-large bid went to the Blackhawks after losing in the region championship against Des Moines. Earning the No. 7 seed for the World Series and facing second year program South Arkansas in the opening round.

+ Kellogg (43-10)

Top Prospect(s): INF Aaron Piasecki, RHP Gavin Beuter

The Bruins have not lost a game so far in May which includes a four game sweep of Lansing and a clean sweep through Districts. Earning the No. 8 seed for the tournament, Kellogg will have to face No. 9 Des Moines and the winner will advance to face No. 1 LSU Eunice.

+ Des Moines Area (36-24)

Top Prospect(s): INF/RHP Camden Kaufman, OF Dillon Kuehl, LHP Chance Key

The Bears took home the Region 11 championship before winning the North Plains District championship. The No. 9 seed in Enid will have a tough path, having to face off against Kellogg in the opening round and the winner advancing to face LSU Eunice.

+ South Arkansas (39-22)

Top Prospect(s): OF Kyle Tolley, C Gavin Murphy

For the second consecutive year the Stars have made it to the World Series. The third year program already has two deep postseasons under their belt with contributions from both sophomores and the freshman on roster.

+ Montgomery (34-19)

Top Prospect(s): OF Andy Rivera, 1B/RHP Will Burgess

Montgomery earned the No. 11 seed after taking home the Mid-Atlantic District Championship, winning two straight elimination games against Frederick. The Mustangs have a balanced roster with both freshman and sophomores providing heavy contributions on the season.

+ Westchester (31-17)

Top Prospect(s): OF Marc Stockhausen, INF Mike Tiseo, RHP Jackson Kossow

The Vikings secured a trip to Enid for the World Series by taking home the East District Championship. After coming up short on a Region title the Vikings went into Districts and defeated Mercer County and UConn Avery Point to advance.
