Recruiting news from around the state

Recruiting news from around the state:

Last summer, Matt Lambert, a 6-foot-3, 165-pound RHP from Ottawa HS, emerged as a prospect to pay close attention to. Behind an 85-88 mph fastball and solid breaking ball, Lambert was one of the biggest surprises at last June?s Prep Baseball Report Top Prospect Showcase. Not too long after, the wiry, projectable Lambert committed to Eastern Illinois University, but backed out of the verbal a few months later.

Lambert has now committed to Heartland CC.

Heartland CC also landed one of the class?s biggest sleepers, Josh Eplin, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound RHP from Streator HS. Eplin was one of the top prospects at the PBR Unsigned Senior Showcase in January, as he showed a heavy mid-80s fastball coming from a low-3/4 arm slot. His hard slider has the potential to be a plus out-pitch at the next level.

Loras College landed a pair of prospects when it received commitments from Glenbard West?s Will Petrosky and Wheaton-Warrenville South 3B/1B R.J. Hoshell. Petrosky, an athletically built 6-foot-6 LHP, also shined at the PBR Unsigned Senior Showcase.

Three Chicago Harlan prospects are headed to Marshalltown CC in Iowa: 1B Kyle Johnson, RHP Jabarri Roberts and SS/RHP Brandon White.
