Murphysboro’s 6-foot-2 junior lefty Dylan Craig was unhittable on Tuesday. Craig fired a no-hitter at Southern Illinois River-River Ohio Division foe  Herrin, defeating the Tigers 2-0. Craig struck out an astounding 19 Tiger hitters. The talented junior also helped himself with his bat by driving in one of the two runs the Red Devils scored. Craig improves to 4-1 for the season. Herrin pitcher Tyler Gooden, who struck out 17 in the game, was the tough-luck loser

 

Belleville East (12-4.5-2) defeated No. 8 Granite City 5-3 in a Southwestern Conference showdown in Belleville. Belleville East’s 6-foot senior RHP Kenny May fired a complete game five-hitter at the Warriors, striking out seven and improving to 5-1 on the season. May, who is hitting .511 on the season, tripled home a pair of runs to lead the Lancers to the victory. Granite City falls to 14-3 overall and slips into a second place tie with Belleville East at 5-2 in the SWC.

 

O’Fallon senior Miles Quintal was a single short of hitting for the cycle in leading the Panthers to a 10-0 victory over East St.Louis. With the win, O’Fallon (12-7; 6-1) is all alone in first place in the Southwestern Conference. Quintal singed, doubled and tripled, driving in three Panther runs. Quintal also stole three bases to top off his outstanding day. Quintal is currently hitting .577 with 18 RBI, Senior LHP Seth Wild (1-3) fired a complete-game one hitter at the Flyers, striking out 10. O’Fallon faces No.1-ranked Harrisburg (23-0) on Saturday at 12:30 in Du Quoin and will host No.8 Granite City on Tuesday April 27.

 

No. 9 Chatham Glenwood (10-1; 5-0) won its 24th consecutive Central State 8 victory by defeating Springfield Southeast 7-0 behind a two-hit masterpiece by senior RHP Bryce Sablotny. Sablotny struck out 13 and improved to 3-0 for the season. Junior 1B Phil Maton had three hits, including a homer and drove home three. .. Lincoln crushed Springfield Lanphier 14-1 in five innings in a battle of CS8 contenders. Lanphier falls to 9-8; 4-1 in the CS8.The two clubs will meet again today in Lincoln (9-5; 4-1)

 

In the Central Suburban South…co-Leaders, Evanston and Glenbrook South  improved to 4-0 in the CSL South with division wins. Evanston defeated Niles West 3-0 behind a two-hit shutout from Wildkit hurler Matt Carmichael, who fanned 10 as Evanston improves to 9-5 and 4-0 in the CSL South.

 

Glenbrook South (8-5; 4-0) was led by Shawn Michols as the Titans blasted New Trier 6-0 on Tuesday. The 5-foot-10,175 Michols fired a complete game shutout, striking out 4 and had three hits and drove in a pair of Titan runs. Michols improves to 4-1.

 

Maine South (9-4; 3-0) was led by their University of Illinois-bound RHP Ronnie Muck, as the Hawks defeated Waukegan 8-6. Muck improved to 5-1 on the mound with the complete-game win.

 

In the DVC…No.3 Naperville Central (14-1;5-0) was led by Kansas State-bound LHP Shane Conlon, as the Redhawks defeated Wheaton Warrenville South 5-1. Conlon allowed one run and five hits and struck out 14 Tiger hitters to improve to 3-0 on the mound.

 

In the wild Fox Valley…Cary-Grove (9-7; 5-3 Valley) stunned Grayslake Central 6-4. Grayslake Central dropped to 11-4; 5-2 FoxIn a battle of divisional leaders, Prairie Ridge (10-5; 6-1 Fox) hammered Huntley 13-3 in five innings…Huntley dropped to 12-2; 6-1 Valley.

 

In the Interstate 8 North…Lisle defeated Seneca 6-1 behind freshman Ryan Van Volkenberg’s complete game, three-hit gem. Van Volkenberg improves to 2-0 on the season. Senior Jon Kolosky had three hits to lead the Lions attack…Coal City was stunned by Sandwich 12-2, thus Lisle and Coal City share the North Division lead at 5-1…Lisle is 13-4 overall; Coal City is 11-7.

 

In the Interstate 8 South…Reed-Custer’s Jake Hayes lost his no-hit bid with two outs in the bottom of the seventh and finished with a one-hitter as the Comets defeated I-8 South leader Herscher 2-0. Hayes had an RBI single as well. Reed-Custer improves to 10-8 overall; 4-2 in the South. Herscher falls to 12-5; 5-1 in the South.

 

In the NCIC Reagan…Streator (14-4; 5-0) defeated Geneseo 11-8 behind senior LHP Drew Sabol. Sabol fired four scoreless innings allowing one hit and striking out 7 to improve to 5-0 on the season. Sabol had two hits and drove in a pair of runs for the Bulldogs…..Ottawa  (9-4; 3-0) kept pace with Streator rolling past Sterling 11-3 behind senior RHP Dylan Jackson (4-1).

 

In the North Suburban Lake…No.2 Stevenson&l ;/strong> crushed Lake Forest 19-5 behind senior CF Corey Lasky, who had four hits and drove home six Patriot runs. Senior RHP Greg Kingery improves to 2-0 on the mound for Stevenson (13-1; 4-1)

 

No.13 Libertyville defeated Zion Benton 9-5 to keep pace with Warren and Stevenson. Senior 1B Brad Martin was a triple short of hitting for the cycle. Martin hammered a grand slam and drove in five Wildcat runs and senior RHP Tyler Schweigert picks up the win for Libertyville (11-5; 4-1).

 

In the North Suburban Prairie…defending Prairie champs Lakes crushed Wauconda 13-3 behind 6-foot-6, University of Minnesota-bound LHP D.J.Snelton. Snelton improved to 3-0 on the mound with a solid five-inning performance, allowing one run and striking out 8. Junior 3B Paul Kukulka was 3-for-3 with five RBIs for Lakes (10-7; 2-1).

 

In the Southwest PrairieNo.6 Plainfield North (13-1; 7-0) crushed Plainfield East 10-0 in five innings behind 6-foot-2 junior RHP Sean Renzi (5-0). Renzi fired a three-hit shutout, striking out 9. St. Xavier University-bound Scott Vachon continued his onslaught on the baseball with two more hits, including his 8th homer of the season.

 

Plainfield Central (10-5; 5-2) stayed in the SWP race with a 13-3 five inning win over Oswego East. Sophomore Mark DeYoung picked up the win on the mound for the Wildcats. DeYoung also hammered a grand slam and had three hits. Older brother, senior Derek, had a 4-for-4 day with an RBI to help his younger brother to the win.

 

In the Southwest Suburban Blue…Lincoln-Way East (9-6; 3-0) defeated Joliet 4-3 on Tuesday in Frankfort. The Griffins were led by Creighton University-bound RHP Matt Hartmann. Hartmann fired a three-hit complete game victory, striking out nine, to lead the Griffins. Griffin senior SS Charlie Herne drove home the game-winner for the LWE.

 

Defending Blue Division champ Sandburg (9-6; 2-1) defeated Lockport 7-5 as the Porters defense committed six errors in their Southwest Suburban Blue opener in Lockport. Sandburg’s senior DH Brett Huff singled home the game-winner for the Eagles, breaking a 5-all tie. Senior LF Nick DeWolf had a pair of hits and RBIs to lead the Eagles attack. Senior 6-foot-3 RHP Joe Greenfield picked up the win. Sandburg will go home today to host Lockport (10-6; 0-1) in Orland Park at 4:30…Lincoln-Way Central (12-5; 2-1) defeated Bolingbrook 8-7 behind senior CF Chad Pudolski who had three hits, including a homer and a double to lead the Knights.

 

In the Western Sun….Geneva (10-5; 5-2), behind a complete-game shutout from senior RHP Riley Perry (Oakton Community College) and two home runs from junior Chris Hipchin, blasted WSC leader Glenabrd South 11-0 in Geneva on Tuesday. Perry improved to 5-0 on the mound and Hipchin has blasted nine dingers this spring for Geneva. Glenbard South (10-6; 5-2) looks to rebound in Glen Ellyn today against Geneva in the Prep Baseball Game of the Day. The PBR’s Drake Skleba will be in Glen Ellyn this afternoon. …DeKalb (10-4; 5-2) rallied past Yorkville 4-3 to pull into a three-way tie with Geneva and Glenbard South atop the WSC standings. The Barbs will meet Yorkville again today.

 

Ottawa Marquette’s (13-6) 6-foot-5 235-pound Joey Ceja improved to 4-0 as the Crusaders defeated Peoria Christian 6-3 on Tuesday. Ceja pitched five innings allowing one hit and striking out nine.
