Catholic League

No. 1 Providence (11-0; 2-0 Blue) defeated new Chicago Catholic League member St. Joseph (8-3; 1-1 White) by a 7-3 margin. Central Michigan-bound SS Joe Houlihan and senior C Casey Papp went deep for the top-ranked Celtics. University of Indiana-bound 1B Collin McEnery chipped in with two hits. Junior LHP Zak Kutsulis (2-0) picked up the win on the mound.

 

No. 6 Mount Carmel (12-1; 2-0 Blue) defeated St. Ignatius 6-2 behind junior Tyler Laurisch and sophomore SS Jerry Houston, who each drove in two Caravan runs.

 

No. 7 St. Rita (12-1; 2-0 Blue) defeated Gordon Tech 12-5 as Mustang junior SS Zach Soria put on quite a show on Wednesday. All Soria did was hammer a two-run double, score four runs and swiped four bases. Fellow junior Stefano Belmonte drove in three Mustang runs with a pair of doubles.

 

No. 13 St. Laurence (11-2; 2-0 Blue) rolled past Fenwick 8-1 behind Viking senior RHP Mike Chimera (3-1), who went the distance for the Vikes. Senior DH Bryan Villanova had two hits and two RBI to lead the Viking attack. PBR editor-in-chief Sean Duncan will be in Bronzeville on Thursday when the Vikings visit De La Salle for the PBR Game of the Day.

 

Brother Rice (4-6; 1-1) evened up its CCL Blue record with a 3-2 nail-biter over Kankakee Bishop McNamara. Crusader junior Ryan Koziol hit a two-run bomb and junior RHP Mike Yacko (1-2) struck out 15 Fighting Irish hitters in his four-hit gem.

 

Central State 8

No. 20 Chatham Glenwood (11-2; 8-0) defeated Jacksonville 12-5 behind a booming grand slam from Titan junior C Alex Bee. Titan senior RHP Patrick Woerner improved to 3-0 with a complete-game effort, allowing only one earned run.

 

Du Page Valley

Naperville Central (8-4; 3-0) routed West Aurora 10-2 to complete the sweep of West Aurora (3-6; 0-3). Redhawk senior 1B Jake DeVoy went deep with a man on for his second home run of 2011. Redhawk sophomore Jeff Schenk (1-1) allowed a run and four hits to pick up the win on the mound.

 

Wheaton North (6-3; 2-1) defeated West Chicago 8-3 behind Kevin Fahey, who homered for the Falcons and Kevin Trimble who had a 3-for-3 day with an RBI. Falcon Ryan Jordan added a two-run bomb for North.

 

Interstate 8

Herscher 14-1; 3-0 South) whipped Westmont 7-1 behind Tiger junior LHP Matt Webber (4-0), who fired a three-hitter at the Sentinels.

 

Jackie Robinson South

No. 9 Simeon (12-1; 5-0) whitewashed Harlan 15-0 in five-innings. Wolverine RHP Elbert Dunnigan was the beneficiary of all of the run support and picked up the win on the mound.

 

Mid-Illini

East Peoria (8-5; 4-0) blanked Metamora 10-0 behind homers from Bulldog Tanner Schofield and Robbie Rogers.

 

Pekin (9-4; 4-0) kept pace with EP by defeating Morton 8-3, as the Dragons continue to keep depositing baseballs out of the yard. The Dragons received dingers from Aaron King, Jared Pyatt and Beau Barnes.

 

Mid-Suburban East

No. 24 Prospect (9-2; 1-0) defeated Wheeling 10-3 behind Knight junior Jack Landwehr (3-1). Landwehr fired a six-hitter at the Wildcats and chipped in with a double at the plate.

 

Mid-Suburban West

Schaumburg (6-1; 1-0) blasted Hoffman Estates 10-1. Saxon senior Kurt Kempema fired a six-hitter at the Hawks and junior Jordan Grubb doubled twice to lead the Saxon attack.

 

Palatine (6-6; 1-0) outlasted Barrington 4-3 in 10 innings. 6-foot 2, 190 pound senior Dan Haze homered for the Pirates. Junior David Schalla picked up the Pirate win on the mound.

 

Mississippi Valley

No.7 Troy Triad (12-1; 1-1) fell from the ranks of the unbeaten as the Knights were ambushed 7-2 by Bethalto Civic Memorial (7-4; 1-1) at the Bethalto Sports Complex on Wednesday. Eagle senior Jack McKinney (1-1) handcuffed the mighty Knights on four hits and allowed two runs over his 6 2/3 innings of work. Eagle junior closer Cody Burnett came in and retired the last Knight batter to record the save. Junior 2B Shane Fencel led the Eagle attack with three hits and three RBI. Senior Zach Tobin chipped in with a pair of RBI. Knight Keaton Wright hit a two-run homer in the sixth for the only two Triad runs.

 

No. 17 Waterloo (13-0; 2-0) slipped past Mascoutah (10-3; 0-1) and Indian ace senior Kyle Culli (5-1) by a 4-2 margin on Wednesday. Bulldog Cole Schaefer led the Waterloo attack with two hits, including a triple and two RBI. Bulldog seniors Nick Steppig and Aron Aycock drove in the other two Bulldog runs.

 

North Suburban Lake

No. 2 Mundelein (13-0; 4-0) defeated Lake Forest 12-5 behind senior LHP Dante Martinez, who improved to 5-0 for 2011. Red-hot Luis Carrasco continued his assault on the baseball with four more hits and four RBI. Mustang junior Chris Maranto chipped in with two hits. Congrats to Mustang head coach Todd Parola who picked up win No. 400 in his illustrious Mundelein coaching career.

 

No.16 Stevenson (8-2; 4-0) kept pace with Mundelein with a 12-2 drubbing of Zion Benton. Senior RHP Dalsen Falbert (2-0) picked up the win on the mound for the Patriots and senior LF Ricky Kern tripled home a pair of Pat runs to lead the attack.

 

Libertyville (7-4; 2-2) finished its sweep of Lake Zurich behind junior RHP Dar Townsend (2-2). Wildcat junior RF Nick Coutre and senior 3B Davis Ogilve homered in the 13-3 Wildcat win.

 

North Suburban Prairie

Wauconda (8-3; 4-0) routed North Chicago 15-0 in five innings. The Bulldogs were led by Ryan Gik, who drove in four runs and Bulldog pitcher David Diol who fanned 13 Warhawk hitters, to pick up the win on the mound.

 

Lakes (6-6; 1-1) grabbed a split with Vernon Hills (11-3; 2-2) by slipping past the Cougars 10-9.

 

N. Illinois Big 12 East

Kaneland (7-4; 3-0) rolled past Rochelle 9-1 behind Knight senior Joe Camilliere who had three hits, including a pair of doubles and drove home three Knight runs.

 

Southwest Prairie

No. 3 Plainfield North (11-0; 5-0) once again received a tremendous battle from Oswego East. Senior 3B Brian Evak ended the second straight epic battle with a walk-off blast, leading the Tigers to a 6-5 victory. Junior Joey Cresta drove home three Tiger runs and senior 1B Pat Cashman chipped in with a pair of RBI.

 

Plainfield South (8-4; 3-2) destroyed Minooka 17-4 behind homers from senior CF Darrell Collins and junior 1B Jesse Small. Sophomore Victor Garcia had three hits for the Cougars. Minooka falls to 9-5 overall and 4-1 in the SPC.
