No. 33 Simeon slammed Corliss 11-0 in five innings in their season-opener on Wednesday. Wolverine junior LHP Shane Brown and freshman Darius Day combined for a no-hitter. Brown pitched the first two innings, striking out a pair and Day finished up the last three innings striking out 4. Western Illinois-bound SS Quintin Richardson and sophomore Robert Fletcher led the Wolverine attack. Richardson drove home three with a double and Fletcher plated two with a three-bagger.

 

No. 37 Warren opened the 2011 season with a home-field victory over the Carmel Corsairs by a score of 8-0. The pitching staff took advantage of a sunny and relatively warm day in the early spring when they combined for a 2-hit shutout on opening day.  Ryan Kennedy got the start and threw 4 1/3 innings, striking out 7 and allowing only 1 hit to earn the win.  Caleb Haley threw 1 2/3 innings of strong relief with 4 Ks and 1 hit.  Kevin Colburn came to the mound to close out the 7th inning with 1K and no hits.  Offensively, the Devils were led by junior Pat Kenney (3 for 4, 3 RBIs, 2R), Anthony Garza (2 for 3, BB, RBI, 2R), Kevin Colburn (1 for 2, 2BB's, RBI), Ryan McKeon (Bunt single, 1R) and Mike Herrmann (Sac Fly, 2 RBI).

 

Defending Chicago Public Jackie Robinson North champion Mather beat Niles North 6-4. Rashan Fox led the Ranger attack with a pair of hits including a two-run bomb to lead Mather (1-0) to their season-opening win.

 

Bloomington Central Catholic (2-0) defeated Lexington 6-4 in eight innings in Lexington (0-1).The Saints were led by Colin O?Connor who drove in the game-winner for the Saints with a clutch eighth-inning double, his third hit of the game.

 

Parkland College recruit LHP Jason Ziegler pitched and hit Mahomet Seymour past Ridgeview 14-4 in five innings in Ridgeview. Ziegler (1-0) fired four shutout innings for the Bulldogs, fanning nine. Ziegler had a pair of hits including a two-run blast for Mahomet-Seymour (2-0).

 

Mt. Vernon (3-0) scored nine times in the first inning and never looked back as the Rams blew past Pinckneyville 11-6. Zane Xanders and Zack Jones homered for the Rams.
