Weston Mason earns Porsche Exchange Player of the Week honors



Last week, Weston Mason broke Mt. Vernon?s single-season record for RBI and tied the home run mark thanks to an incredible string of games. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound left-handed pitcher and first baseman did it all for the Rams as they clinched their second consecutive South Seven Conference championship.

 

Mason, who is signed at John A. Logan JC, began his torrid streak with two home runs and four RBI against Alton at GCS Ballpark. Then he belted two more bombs and drove in five in a 14-1 pasting against Benton. Mason hit another homer, doubled, drove in three and pitched Mt. Vernon to a 5-4 victory over Centralia to clinch the conference championship. Mason also doubled in a 12-6 win over Marion.  

 

Mason now has 52 RBI this season, breaking the previous school mark. He also tied the home run record with nine. For the year, he?s hitting .429 with 13 doubles, five triples, nine homers, 41 runs, 42 hits, while slugging at a .939 clip.

 

On the mound, Mason has an 8-0 record with four complete games, three shutouts and a 3.00 ERA. He has recorded 74 strikeouts in 49 innings.
