LHP Justin Chambers (Basha HS, AZ), a Washington State recruit, showcased a starter’s profile with premium feel for three pitches. Across two outings the sturdy and athletic, 6-foot-3, 210-pound southpaw was dominant working four innings, striking out seven, yielding just three hits with neither a walk nor a run. He was 87-90 on the final day with a power arm stroke that got quality extension while working linear down the mound. He countered the fastball with feel for a shorter 77-80 slurve and faded 77-79 changeup.
1/31/21
2023 LHP/OF Justin Chambers (Higley)- Washington State commit, 6-foot-2, 180-pounds, large frame, long-levered body, strong lower half, some present athleticism. Worked out as a two-way player. Left-handed hitter, wide crouched base, slightly open stance. Uses a leg lift, reaching into front foot strike at times. Loads deep into an armbar with high back elbow, vertical barrel. Used the whole field with varying contact, some natural strength & present bat speed through swing, hips work well. Although some rawness to actions in the box, there is above average pop that he showed on a big line drive triple to RCF in live game action. Tall athletic footwork in the OF. Ran a 7.41 60-yard dash. Quick side shuffle to create direction to target, throwing on a line with strong arm at 90mph. Also worked out on the mound. Left-hander with strong upside. Athletic delivery, long levers & stride, created solid direction coming down the mound, trunk rotates slightly early into front foot strike. Throws from a H3/4 arm slot with some arm speed, short arm swing. Pounded the strike zone while changing release points on 4 pitches. FB sat 84-87, topping out at 88mph with ASR, averaging 13in of HM at 1951rpm. Threw SL (72-73) & CV (65-69) with average spin that have a chance to improve with added intent. Should continue to make strides on the mound.
6/16/20
6-foot-1 170-pounds, long body with some strength & above average athleticism. Ran a 7.29 60-yard dash that he can probably improve on with better direction. Two-way player, left-handed hitter with some rawness at the plate. Sets up in a spread out base with some knee bend, slightly open. Uses a leg kick trigger, landing slightly closed off at times. Opposite field approach, 85mph exit velocity. Good athleticism & feet at first base. Above average are across the diamond at 81mph. Stood out on the mound, throwing from a higher arm slot, he pounded the zone with some quickness, working his FB 80-84mph with some life. He also worked in two breaking balls with lower spin that were similar in shape. Threw them from a lower arm slot with the SL 69-70mph & CV was 67-69mph. Upside on the mound that should be followed.
