2022 MLB Draft: The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Mautz was San Diego's Saturday starter and a model of consistency for much of the season. He went 10-2 with a 3.87 ERA, striking out 120 and walking 22 in 90.2 innings. His fastball ranges from 89-94 from a quick and snappy 3/4 slot. That, paired with a low-80s slider with sharp, late swing, allows him to rack up swings and misses, though the fastball can straighten out a bit at times. He isn't afraid to pitch inside and has some effort and deception to his delivery, keeping hitters uncomfortable.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder was making his first start to open a series with the Toreros trying to catch the Zags in the standings. He went 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out eight. He started hot, sitting 92-94 from a quick and snappy three-quarter arm slot. That, paired with a low-80s slider with sharp, late sweep, got him two strikeouts in the first. He settled into the 89-92 range after that and started to give up more contact on the fastball as the game progressed. He pitched exclusively out of the stretch and with some effort, letting out an audible grunt on just about every pitch.

The University of San Diego commit displays a solid pitchers build and looks the part. Starts with his hands high in both the wind-up and stretch, releasing the ball from a high three-quarters arm slot. Stabs downward in the back arm swing which led to pitch tipping and inconsistent command. Exited his start in the third inning allowing nine hits and ten earned runs. Fastball sat in the 82-84 mph range in both the stretch and wind-up. Breaking ball lacked sharp bite and was punished when left up by the advanced Eastlake hitters sitting in the 72-74 mph. Increased arm speed and lower half extension coupled with maturity are needed in order to compete at the next level.
