8-15-2018: Six-foot-four, 195 pounds. Good slope to upper body, lean build. Recipient of “Russ Ford Outstanding Relief Pitcher” award. Pitched 22.2 innings across 17 appearances. Struck out 33 batters while only issuing two walks. Fastball normally sits 87-89 mph but got up to 91 (1800-1900 rpm spin rate) during his All-Star game appearance. Commands three additional offerings. Curveball ranges 78-80 with 11/5 shape. More of a get-me-over pitch. Slider at 80-84 shows tight spin (2100-2200 rpm), better depth than CB. Uses it effectively to both righties and lefties. Fourth pitch, average changeup comes in at 79-80 with good hand speed (1700-2100 rpm). Generates good downward angle on everything with high release. Low effort, repeatable delivery. Understands how to disrupt timing. Pitches backwards effectively. Avoids being predictable. Relies on advanced pitchability more than pure stuff. (D Jurik)
