It was a first look at the uncommitted RHP for the Wolfpack this week, and walked away impressed. Working with a ton of funk and deception from an extremely low release height, Vargo simply dominated throughout his outing with the fastball at 86-88 that displayed hard arm-side life and late hop that had an innate ability to miss bats. Racked up 14 whiffs on the fastball, with 19 total in the outing. Tighter slider at 74-77 was commanded well early in counts to get ahead, and showed a budding low-80s changeup that showed late arm-side fade from the same fastball tunnel. The latter showing real potential put-away pitch in the future for Vargo, and overall strong feel for the three pitch mix. Starting to garner attention from big schools at the right time, and could be in-store for a huge summer campaign.
