(Ripley, 2024) was as dominant as it comes from a starting pitcher on opening day. After a quick first inning, recording an out on a bunt and getting the next two guys in just a few pitches, Long turned things up a notch and K'd 5 of the next 6 hitters and went on to record 15 total in his 6 innings of work for the Tigers. The Southern Miss recruit showed confidence and a high level of pitchability throughout his outing. The fastball was located to all parts of the zone and played in the 83-86 mph range for the most part and occasionally worked up to 87 and 88 mph at times. The breaking ball (70-72 mph) was locked in from the start, Long was able to work the offspeed offering in any count for a strike, was almost a go to pitch for him anytime he found himself behind in the count to keep the Tishomingo hitters off balance. Quality first outing for him to start the season with a win and finishing with a final line of 6 IP, 15 K's, 0 ER, 2 H and 1 BB in the 3-1 win over the Braves on the road.
