Scrappy table setter approach at the plate; uses the whole field, can take a bag when needed. Steady defender, accurate arm. Projects as a LF/CF at the four year level. Uncommitted.
October 21, 2017
Ruiz stands an athletic 5-foot-7 157 pounds, running a 7.12 60. Sets up slightly open with a short leg kick and take back of the hands. Stays behind the ball with a rotational swing from the ground up; when staying short into the zone he can work the gaps. Extra base potential to his pull side yet able to work the whole field. Exit velocity peaked at 85 MPH.Maintains momentum with active footwork behind the catch, works through the ball with a full body effort. Throws maintain some carry with accuracy at 78 MPH.Fundamentally sound as an outfielder. On the infield Ruiz exhibits a quick release; accurate arm and steady glove. More of a 2B feel to his game but certainly is serviceable there. Arm peaked at 75 MPH across the diamond with a short, snap like release. LF/CF/2B mold with a table setter's approach at the plate; scrappy player.
