Campus Series- St. Bonaventure (July 11, 201)
Troccia stands in at 5-foot-9, 165-pounds with a strong, athletic frame. Ran a 4.83 home to first. Offensively- Righty sets up square to the pitcher with his feet wide outside his shoulders. Shows a large knee bend leaning backward with an upright torso. Holds the bat in front of the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a quick step up with the front foot placing it in the same spot while his hands move back slightly into his hitting position. Quick hands to the hitting zone with upward lift barrel action throughout into a high two-handed finish. Utilizes good lower body rotation clearing the hips to get the whole-body frame involved in swing. Demonstrated solid contact with gap to gap power potential during batting practice rounds. Recorded an exit velocity of 81 MPH. Defensively- Frames well on pitches keeping glove and body quiet. Good footwork and quick transition on throws down to second. Could throw more downhill to be quicker. Fluid blocking mechanics and able to get back up to his feet quick. Keeps the ball in front. Recorded a positional arm velocity as a catcher at 71 MPH and showed a pop time range of 2.07-2.08. Pitching- Shows fluid mechanics with loose arm action. Has good drive down the mound and on front foot strike is in a good throwing position. Repeats mechanics well with an aggressive follow through getting into a good fielding position. Fastball was 78-79 MPH with good arm side run action. Curveball was 61-64 with 12/6 action. Change-up was 66-67 with strong sinking action and could also be thrown consistently for a strike.
