On the swing he dips the barrel through the hitting zone. Swing path is long, slight uphill plane, exit Velo- 74 MPH. Defensively- has a below average pop time. Stands up when he receives the ball. Will benefit from a quicker transfer. Throws from over the top slot, average transfer. Arm strength at 67 MPH, with a pop time of 2.47-2.53.
Campus Series- Oswego (August 15, 2017)
LaPlante stands a firm 5-foot-8, 150-pounds with more to come. Offensively- Slightly open stance, almost no load on the pitch. Shows some hard contact to opposite field, barrel drops and stays uphill through the zone with little extension. Exit velocity was 71 MPH. Defensively- As a catcher pop-times range from 2.43-2.46 with 59 MPH arm-strength. On the infield, fields through the ball, slower release from a high ¾ slot, 60 MPH arm-strength to 1B. Will need to improve overall arm strength to stay behind the plate.
