Big Apple Preview (October 8, 2016)
Tejada, a 2019 right-handed hitting stocky catcher, stands at  5-foot-6 and weighs 192 pounds, ran a 8.77 60. Offensively- Starts from a square upright stance with little bend with the knees while the hands are in front of the back shoulder and bat nearly straight up and down. Gets to the launch phase using a slight leg lift but minimal stride movement while the hands are loaded with a buggy whip movement. When the hands were able to stay in sequence behind the hip rotation, showed an ability to drive with good backspin and carry towards the pull side gap. Needs to be more consistent with with being patient and trying stay in the proper sequence, if these adjustments can be made, will improve on the 76 MPH exit velocity shown on the day. Defensively-  Narrow primary stance with the right knee slightly lower than the left knee. Glove hand is in a good position to receive the ball with the elbow outside of the knee and glove in the lower third of the zone. If the base could be a bit wider, would loosen up the hips and create a less stiff movement to the balls on either corner of the plate. On throws to second base glove and throwing hand moved in a bit of sweeping motion causing a slight delay with the transfer but showed an ability to recover and get the throwing arm into a strong position. Gets good leg drive, but could stay a bit tighter with the front side which would give better extension on throws. With these adjustments, will improve on the pop time of 2.26 and arm velocity of 67 MPH shown on the day.
