Campus Series-Albany (July 18, 2017)
Catalfamo stands in at 6-foot-1, 210-pounds with a thick, athletic frame. Offensively- Righty sets up square to the pitcher with his feet just outside his shoulders. Shows a slight knee bend with an upright torso holding his hands just in front of the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a knee raise to stride forward while his hands move back into a good hitting position. Uses good lower body rotation getting whole frame involved in the swing. Shows quick hands to the hitting zone with a level barrel path throughout into a mid-body one-handed finish. Demonstrated good plate coverage during batting practice round driving the ball pull side and up the middle. Has a fluid swing overall with area to improve as he gets stronger. Recorded an exit velocity of 75 MPH, a 1 MPH improvement from November 2016. Defensively- Good approach and footwork off the bag at first. Fielding mechanics are clean with good footwork towards intended target. Moves well off the bag and can make the play coming off. Fielding process needs to be quicker but will get there with added strength and development. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 64 MPH, 1 MPH shy of his previous best mark of 65 MPH set in November 2016.

November 6, 2016

Catalfamo, a 2019 right-handed hitting/ left handed throwing first basemen, stands at 6-foot-0 and weighs 205 pounds, ran a
9.77 60. Offensively- Starts from an upright open lower half weight evenly distributed with the hands below the back shoulder chest height and barrel of the bat nearly perpendicular to the ground. Initiates the swing with a lifting of the lead foot with an inward rotation of the knee while the hands are loaded straight back off the shoulder and barrel of the bat gets completely perpendicular to the ground. Kept the hands connected and barrel tight thru the hitting zone during batting practice, showing the ability to drive, especially the pitch to the lower third, from the pull side gap to the opposite field gap. Recorded an exit velocity of 74 MPH on the day, which should improve with some minor adjustments to create a more aggressive drive with the back hip and rotation. Defensively- Pre-pitch setup is athletic with the glove in front of the body. Prep step consist of left to right movement, getting the body moving before the pitch. Fields the ball in the center of the body, a bit deep, transferring from the chest while the footwork is moving ahead of the transfer. Recorded an arm velocity of 65 MPH, but could improve that if the sequence of the transfer and footwork could be adjusted.
