Full bodied RHP, low ¾-arm slot, fastball sitting 76-78 with lateral movement. Sweeping slider 9/4 shape.
NY Games (June 25-27, 2017)
6-foot-2, 210-pound RHP with upside. Pitching - uses low ¾ slot and occasionally throws sidearm, creates late movement at 77-78 MPH - touches 79 MPH, has learned how to use side-arm run to his advantage and consistently induces weak contact, changes eye level, throws 2-to-7 curveball to both sides of the plate at 62-63 MPH, batters struggle to find rhythm against Snyder.
November 6, 2016
Snyder, a 2018 right-handed hitting third baseman/ RHP currently ranked as the 36th best infield prospect, stands at 6-foot-2 and weighs 200 pounds, ran a 7.58 60. Offensively- Hits from a wide open lower half with a shift of weight to the back side, with the hands held in front of the back shoulder and barrel of the bat nearly straight up. Initiates the swing with an inward rotation of the lead knee as the front foot closes and drives forward towards the pitcher with the hands loaded straight back outside the back shoulder. During batting practice, drove the ball from the pull side line to the center of the field. The barrel of the bat gets outside the back shoulder during the path, making the swing a bit long. Recorded an exit velocity of 85 MPH, a personal best, and an increase of 7 MPH from last year. Defensively- Starts from an upright narrow lower half, but is able to incorporate a two step action before the pitch to get the body moving. Fields the ball on the outer left-hand side of the body, transferring the ball from the waist. Creates a longer arm action, not traditional of an infielder, but gets quality leg drive and arm speed, registering an arm velocity of 83 MPH, which was an increase of 9 MPH from last event. Pitching- Starts from the first of the rubber, hands held just above the chest while the toes and shoulders have a slight turn to the arm side. Gets to the gathered position with a very subtle side step to the first base line while the pivot foot remains on at the same spot, hips with an inward rotation with the lead knee getting just below the chest and hands elevate to the right ear. Gets quality separation with the hands, sticking the landing with the lead toe slightly closed and the lead elbow well outside the body, which cause more a circular motion rather than a direct path to release and extension. The fastball, thrown from a low to mid ¾ arm slot and topping out at 78 MPH, showed life but the command of the pitch needs to be worked with. Fastball stayed mostly up in the zone, but if the lead arm could stay tighter, extension would be better on release and make it easier to command the ball down in the zone. The curveball, showed tight spin with 11-to-4 shape with a top velocity of 65 MPH. The changeup showed quality depth as well as good differential from the fastball at 69-70 MPH. Has continued to show improvement with increases across the board as well as having a good size.
Last Chance Preview (November 29, 2016)
Zach is 6-foot-2, 180 pound 3B/RHP that ran a 5.43 home to 1B and had 78 MPH exit velocity. Offensively- Zach starts from a spread stance with hands just above the shoulder, maintaining a 45 degree bat angle. Uses a short and controlled load for his hands with a heel lift for his stride. Stays back into contact with hands leading out into swing. Front side rolls open with contact and their is some uphill tilt to his swing path with a finish into foul ground. Additional lower half effort will tap into his power potential. Defensively- Active feet into his approach with proper angles to the ball. Clean with transfer when he funnels upward instead of in towards the belt. Adequate arm strength from the left side at 74 MPH. Pitching- Uses a short and controlled drop step up to a strong balance point with hands at chest height. Stays with infielder's arm action when breaking hands, working through a low 3/4 slot. Lands open and on heel with a recoil finish. FB peaked at 75 MPH sitting 71-74 MPH with some arm side run. CB featured some late bite with some 2-to-8 shape at 61-63 MPH. Needs more feel to change up, differential is in an acceptable range.
