10/10/16

5-foot-11, 155-pound, average athletic frame. A right-handed hitter, the stance is wider than shoulder width, weight is loaded up on the back side. The hands are held slightly above the back shoulder, they stay back, the swing is level across his chest and finishes the swing with two hands. The lower half is under control, uses a minimal stride. The tee exit velocity was 77 mph and ran a 5.16 from home to first. Defensively, worked out from the outfield and behind the plate. From the outfield the arm was clocked at 68 mph, the arm works freely and is clean. The feet worked well, steps through and gains ground towards target, gets behind ball and builds momentum towards target. Behind the dish, setup is relaxed and is low to the ground. The feet gain ground in the transfer, they get inline towards second base. The arm is short and quick, clocked at 66 mph. Pop times were at 2.2-2.3. The hands could be slightly softer when receiving, worked hard on blocking and getting around the dirt balls.

ACADEMIC GAMES II (Aug 21, 2016)

Right-handed hitting catcher and outfielder with a pop time of 2.18. Threw 67 mph from behind the dish as the arm strength, transfer and footwork all need to improve. The receiving needs to be soften as time on a pitching machine will help him work on securing the catch, improve his blocking and recovering as well. In the outfield, showed a solid approach to the ball, throwing 71 mph from right field to third base. Ran a 4.89 down the line on his dig to first base. The bat has a tee exit velocity of 71 mph to it. The swing needs physical strength, as do most kids his age. The setup is wide with his feet and the back elbow is high. The front foot is picked up and he has a small stride to the ball, the foot is getting down to late. The path is below the ball, needs to work the barrel above the ball to help contact.

Last Chance Preview Showcase (November 29, 2015)
L ucas is wiry 5-foot-10, 155 pound catcher that is also listed as an outfielder. He had a home to 1B of 4.75 and an exit velocity of 72 MPH. Defensively- Lucas showed good receiving skills staying soft on the edges, absorbing the ball back to his body. Throwing wise he uses a low slot with some sling shot action, causing ball to run some to his arm side. Throws were accurate. Exchanges feet properly but would benefit with being more aggressive here as footwork did not always complete the movement. Pop times ranged from 2.19-2.25. Offensively- Lucas hits from an even stance with weight pre-loaded on back side. Minimal actions with his hands for his timing, as hands are already back and he uses a simple up-down stride. Rolls open on his front side pre-contact taking the bat out of the zone. Does stay short into contact and is able to repeat his effort. Groundball/line drive results. Stronger front side and some back side/hip aggression will only help.
