6/16/19

5-foot-8, 155-pound, fast-twitch athlete, strength throughout. A two-way player, at the plate, even feet at shoulder width. Higher hand set, extended back elbow, slow controlled leg kick, gets it down early. The swing is level to up, creating back spin, bat speed is good, clocked at 81 mph. The approach is from gap to gap, solid hard contact in batting practice. Defensively, can play on both sides of the bag, starts and feeds are correct with rhythm and timing. Fields out front, working low to the ground, feet move throughout. Off the mound a quick arm right-handed pitcher, pounds the zone with three pitches. The delivery is simple, gets loaded up, stays over back side, small collapse of back leg. The direction is in line. The arm works out of a natural 3/4 slot, good extension out front on release. The fastball was clocked in the high 70's have seen a tick better at times. The slider has depth, clocked at 65 mph, showed feel for changeup down in the zone, at 68 mph. Look for him to be able to do both things at the college level.

Tee Exit Velocity: 81 mph
Arm Velocity: 68 mph
Sixty-Yard Dash: 7.40

6/20/18

5-foot-7, 150-pound, smaller, athletic frame, hands and legs have strength and quickness to them. A two-way player, showed well on both sides of the field, arm might be his top tool. The arm was clocked at 79 mph across the diamond, plenty of strength and life to it. The hands are soft out front, works low to the ground, feet move throughout, transfers the baseball to throwing hand quickly and the arm works from a natural ¾ slot. Showed the ability to turn the double play from both sides of the bag. At the plate, feet are even, hands are at the shoulders, uses a small leg kick which helps in providing some more juice to the swing. The tee exit velocity was clocked at 78 mph, with more of a line drive approach to the middle of the field. Ran a 7.41 sixty yard dash. Off the mound, has simple controlled repeatable delivery, is a two pitch pitcher. The fastball reached 81 mph with action to the arm side. The breaking ball is an above average pitch at 66-69 mph, has depth, good hard, late 11/5 break. Projects as more of a second baseman long term, arm will be a weapon when turning double plays. Will be able to help out of the pen, with firm fastball/breaking ball combo.

7/26/17

5-foot-7, 145 pounds, slim frame at the present time with room for added strength, strong legs, sloped shoulders. Skilled in the field, should stick up the middle in the infield. Clean actions in the field. Soft hands and slick glove, throws from a ¾ slot at 79 mph right now across the diamond. That number is likely to climb as he continues his physical development. Fields the ball out in front with smooth transfers. His defensive skills are polished for a young prospect, showing comfort with the backhand and forehand. Offensively, he stands slightly open to even in the box with a level-up swing. Made hard contact during his batting practice session, spraying line drives to all fields. Loads quickly, takes small step towards the pitch as his hands work down from the shoulders and get into position at the letters. Balanced in the box with feet getting set slightly broader than shoulder width. He gets the bat into the zone quickly, though will need to continue improving pitch recognition in game situations. Overall, Hien’s defense is his carrying tool, and making incremental improvements offensively will bolster his total package. A guy to follow in the 2020 class.

Home-First: 4.57
Exit Velocity: 78 MPH
Arm Velocity: 79 MPH
