Mullins went a career-long five innings, limiting Ole Miss to just one run on two hits and working around four walks. A funky southpaw with a long arm swing to a higher slot, he hasn't always been able to repeat his mechanics and has struggled with command in his career, but he showed feel for four quality pitches on this night, working at 90-94 early and holding 88-92 throughout his 88-pitch outing, with a high spin rate (up into the 2600s) that makes his fastball play up. Mullins was a high-profile recruit who has always tantalized with his arm strength, but he located better Friday than he often has in the past. He also missed bats with both his 80-84 slider with good bite and tight spin in the 2500-2700 rpm range as well as his solid tumbling changeup in the same velocity band. He mixed in some bigger 73-74 mph curveballs from time to time, but the slider has become his top secondary pitch, which is a newer development for him.

Max FB: 88, FB: 87-88, CB: 70-71, CH: 77-78 6-0, 170-pound, LHP is athletic on the mound and showed some of the huge improvements in his game that we've been hearing about, works quickly and with a lot of movement in his delivery, high leg and hand lift gets him loaded at the top and creates some slight shoulder tilt. strides in line to slightly closed but has no trouble getting his hand out front, arm action is loose and quick through a 3/4 slot. Fastball showed hard run, his curveball was powerful with late 1/7 shape, and his changeup could develop into a big pitch with some fade.

Max FB: 84, FB: 82-84, CB: 71-73, 5-foot-11, 155-pound, LHP reinstated his place as one of the top pitchers in Tennessee’s 2019 class, works at a quick pace with a very up-tempo approach, same mechanics as we saw from him at the Underclass Games with a high leg lift that gets his front hip loaded before heading to the plate, establishes some shoulder tilt as well, stays tall on his stride leg that lands in line, finishes under control with a slight fade toward 3B, arm action is loose and whippy through a ¾ slot. Fastball showed very consistent run and was commanded well, curveball had 1/8 to 2/7 shape though the zone with some late and sharp break on it. Mullins recorded 3 strikeouts in his 2 innings of work and only allowed a run because of a defensive blunder behind him.
7/26/16 - Max FB: 84, FB: 81-84, CB: 70-72, 5-foot-11, 145-pound, LHP was one of the best surprises in the entire event, uses a very active and athletic motion that takes advantage of his ability on the mound, a high and fast-paced leg lift and hand raise keep a lot of parts moving in action, leads with his front hip toward the plate and lands very much in line, lets his momentum take his body toward the 3B side on his finish at times, quick arm comes through a ¾ release point with some zip. Fastball showed some sharp run and was thrown consistently for strikes, although he missed up and in on lefties a few times, curveball was thrown with good arm speed and showed the potential to be a big time out pitch with some powerful 1/8 movement. Mullins was very impressive, overall, and struck out 3 in his 2 innings of work.
Auburn commit continued to show why he is top draft eligible pitcher in the state, working 3 hitless innings while striking out 4. 6-0, 180-pound lefty features a medium, athletic frame w/ some present lower half strength, some physical projection. Pitches from a full wind-up into H ¾ release. Lot of movement in his delivery, athletic enough to consistently repeat. Uncomfortable at bat w/ easy velocity, super quick arm. Angle. Straight FB shows occasional short arm-side run. Medium downer CB w/ proper shape and rotation. SL had a wide velo range, tight ¾ tilt w/ late bite. Flashed as a put-away pitch. CH w/ arm-speed, short fade and sink. Went right at guys, showed ability to pitch w/ intent w/ his 4-pitch mix. Generated 2 swing and misses on 14 swings.
