2012 MLB Draft Recap

By Mike Penn

Without a single high school baseball player from Michigan taken in the first two days of the draft, Wednesday was sure to change that. When the draft dust settled, four players were taken from Michigan high schools.

Justin Alleman (Holt HS) was the Michigan prep pick.  With the 553rd overall pick, the Kansas City Royals selected Alleman, a hard throwing right-hander who is currently committed to Michigan State.

Next up was Brett Sunde (Bishop Foley HS), who was selected by the Oakland A's with the 1069th pick overall in the 35 round.

We didn't have to wait long for the Arizona Diamondbacks to select Cameron Gibson (Grosse Point South HS), another Michigan State commit, in the 38th round, 1173rd overall.

And only 3 picks later came Zackary Fields (Annapolis HS), with pick No. 1176 to the Texas Rangers.

Congrats to these four outstanding players on their achievement.
