The Uncommitted Spotlight Series continues as we near the completion of the '24 CIF High School baseball season Prep Baseball California is continuing to highlight some of the top uncommitted class of '25 athletes. The players featured today was a stellar performer from our 2024 OC Preseason ID event. The players featured within our Uncommitted Spotlight series are ones that college coaches and fans should be keeping their eyes on over the coming months.

We invite you to get to know them through the eyes of our Prep Baseball California staff of scouts and the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, Swift Performance, and Visual Edge provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.

Today, we put the spotlight on a SoCal '25 1B/RHP Reagan Samples from Los Osos High School. With a physically strong frame at 6'2 220 lbs. Samples presents a powerful RH hitting offensive profile with an interesting skill set on the mound with his performance at the OC Preseason ID and in his JR. season for Los Osos High School. His swing from the LH side is a carrying tool for Samples and it shows solid metrically with both quickness in his hand path (21.6 MPH hand speed) and bat path (71.7 MPH bat speed). The combination of his strength and swing metrics with a feel for rhythm/timing during his workouts at Prep Baseball California events has shown Samples to be an intriguing offensive piece with a powerful approach that consistently generates hard contact (92 MPH average exit velocity) and on the upper end shows loud raw power potential as he maxes out with a 100.6 MPH exit velocity and showed a 361' batted ball distance during his Prep Baseball California batting practice session. His actions are solid in the INF, but looks to be mainly limited to being a 1B defender based on athleticism. Samples adds a quality RHP profile to his loud position player package with a 81-83 MPH FB that peaked at 84 during his bullpen session with a 3 pitch offspeed mix of a CHG/CB/SLD with his CHG and SLD standing out metrically while the CB shows potential as a 4th offering. Samples had a very strong spring including a .362 AVG/.516 OBP/.521 SLG with 5 doubles, 2 HRs, 19 RBIs, 13 runs scored and a 11/10 BB to K ratio.  On the mound Samples was equally impressive going 8-2 in 11 starts this spring with a 2.62 ERA, he threw 50.2 IP with 31 Ks and a WHIP just over 1.0. His loud offensive ability that shows a middle of the order potential with depth to back end of a lineup floor with a potential to add a quality arm on the mound in starter/reliever role Samples is a name to follow out of the '25 class for college programs who has a chance to raise his profile over the summer/fall headed into his SR. season.

Delivery: RH. Works from the windup, quick throughout motion. Hunches over in leg lift.
Arm Action: RH. Over the top release. Concise arm path.
FB: T84, 82-83 mph. Issues missing up in the zone. Consistently hits target. T2331, 2239 average rpm.
CB: 63-66 mph. Slow curveball. Provides big speed difference between pitches. T2146, 2069 average rpm.
SL: 69-71 mph. Sharp horizontal break, breaks late. T2336, 2194 average rpm.

Hit: LHH. Slightly open stance that evens out when he strides. Rests bat on back shoulder. Toe tap in stride. Higher launch angle that produces a lot of fly balls.
Power: 101 max exit velocity, averaged 92.0 mph. 361' max distance. Loud power with strength in the swing. The feel to elevate the ball is slightly raw but it carries with middle/pull side HR carry.
Arm: RH. INF-81 mph. Short quick arm circle with strength in his throws. Ball shows carry and there is accuracy.
Defense: Feet work with solid body control. Hands are good with a fluid transfer.
ATH: 8.07 runner in the 60. Shows body control, maintains running stride
