2014 OHSAA state final four Preview - division iII 

No. 1 CHCA (28-2) vs. Orrville (18-11) at Huntington Park, Thursday, 4 p.m. 

No. 1 Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy (28-2)

Interesting Facts:

  • This is CHCA’s 2nd time to the state tournament and the first since 2005.

  • In the five sectional/district/regional wins in the 2014 tournament, CHCA is outscoring its opponents 37-0.

  • In the final month of the season (including tournament), CHCA has scored 87 runs and only allowed 2 (10 game winning streak began on May 8).

  • CHCA was 7-0 this season against D-I teams, including wins against Lakota West, Loveland, Milford and Ross.

Interesting Facts:

  • 1st time in school history that the Red Riders have been to three straight Regionals.

  • JT Perez (University of Cincinnati) and Stuart Schley (West Point) became the 1st DI College signees in Orrville's program since 1997 and just the 3rd and 4th in program history to sign DI scholarships.

  • The Red Riders are making only their 2nd appearance at State. 1976 team finished runners up to Elida.

  •  Past three years we have played in the regionals and played 4 years in a row in the districts.

  •  The Red Riders have 7 seniors - 5 of which are 4 year starters and the other 2 are 3 year starters.

Interesting Facts:

  • Wheelersburg was not ranked in the final coaches poll despite winning back-to-back state championships and is making a fifth straight state trip.

  • Wheelersburg junior Wade Martin was the starting pitcher in each of their last two state title games.

  • The Pirates' five straight regional championships ties the OHSAA baseball state record, shared by Lima Senior (1960-64) and Tiltonsville (1931-35).

  • The Pirates allowed zero runs during the regionals, beating Frankfort Adena 3-0 and then Marion Elgin 5-0.
