As we prepare for our 2014 high school preseason coverage, we are going to take a quick glance at teams from across the state.

OUTLOOK:

Sean Stires returns for his second season at SB-Adams where the Eagles are looking for major improvement from last year's 3-19 record. The Eagles return the majority of their starters this spring and hope to move to the middle of the pack of the NIC and contend for a Sectional title. Senior 3B Jesse Stires enters his final season at Adams.  The 6-foot-225 pound athlete is a two time All NIC selection and has signed with NAIA's Sienna heights to play football.  As a Junior Stires hit .397 with a 1.089 OPS.  Senior RHP/OF Sam Hosinski was a fist time All-NIC selection last year after hitting .367 with an OPS of .897. Hosinski was shutdown as a pitcher in 2013 due to an elbow injury.  Four Juniors are expected to contribute to the Eagles success this spring.  Last season's most improved award winner, Connor Nelson, will play a key role on the mound and at the plate.  As a sophomore he pitched in a team high of 28 innings and hit .361 with an .866 OPS.  Coach Stires' best athlete in the program, Carlton Smith, will be converting to SS this year, as well as see time on the mound.  In 2013 Smith hit .333 and swiped 9 bases. C.J. Brewer will play next to Smith at 2B after hitting .329 with an .833 OPS last spring.  RHP Austin Chapman will once again see some innings on the mound after throwing in 19.6 last spring and finishing with a 3.92 ERA.  Chapman may also see more time in the field as well.
