2016 OHSAA Tournament: Road To Huntington Park - Division IV State Semifinal Recap:

Game 1:

COLUMBUS - A familiar face is back in the Division IV state finals. Newark Catholic used a four-run fifth inning to beat Fort Recovery 7-3 and reach the title game for the fourth year in a row.

Nick Cavinee and Caleb Clagget singled before a Tyler York double put Newark Catholic up 4-3 in the fifth. A bunt single by Jody Mummey and a Fort Recovery error helped the Green Wave add to the lead in the frame.

Caine Whitney threw 3.1 innings of one-hit shutout relief to pick up the victory for the No. 2 Green Wave of Newark Catholic.

Cavinee had three singles to pace an 11-hit Newark Catholic attack while Jon Erhard added a pair of base hits.

Losing pitcher Nick Thwaits had half of No. 7 Fort Recovery's hits with three singles.

Newark Catholic will face No. 10 Triad in the state finals on Saturday at7 p.m.

Game 2:

COLUMBUS - Shane Ford threw a one-hit shutout to help No. 10 Triad beat Cuyahoga Heights 6-0 in the Division IV state semifinals.

Aaron Kucia had the lone hit off Ford with one out in the seventh inning. Ford struck out three and walked two for Triad (26-7).

Trent McIntyre had a two-out bases-clearing triple to deep right-center field to highlight a four-run second inning for Triad.

The Cardinals added two runs in the sixth on RBI singles from Alec Ober and Dalton Holycross.

McIntyre and Holycross each had two hits for Triad while Jacob Greve hit a double.
