2016 Overall Rankings: Indiana Analysis

The PBR overall rankings for the 2016 class were updated last week.  The overall rankings include 400 prospects from our 27 state coverage area, and now includes all of the New England states. 


The overall rankings continue to expand both in number and coverage area, making it more and more difficult for prospects to hold their spot, but the Hoosier State continues to hold its own with 24 players in the Top 400 including two players in the Top 25 and eight total in the Top 150. 

Skylar SzynskiFor the first time since doing the 2016 rankings there is a new No. 1 player in the state of Indiana in Indiana recruit Skylar Szynski, an athletically built 6-foot-2, 195 pound RHP. Szynski made the jump after a highly successful summer in which he was up to 95 at the East Coast Pro; 90-93 at the Area Code Games; and 92-93, hitting 94 multiple times in Jupiter last month while flashing several 78-80 mph breaking balls with sharp late bite. Szynski is ranked 16th in the updated overall rankings. 




T.J. CollettThe second ranked player in Indiana's 2016 class and No. 24 in the overall rankings is Kentucky recruit T.J. Collett.  Collett is a strong framed 6-foot-1, 215 pound left-handed hitting catcher with an easy swing that produces raw power to all fields.  If he continues to improve defensively, he will be one of the more intriguing draft prospects next year.  




Zack ThompsonThe No. 3 and No. 4 ranked players in Indiana are a pair of armsReid Schaller heading to the SEC next fall.  Kentucky recruit Zack Thompson, 54th in the overall rankings, is a 6-foot-2, 190 pound southpaw with a fastball sitting in the low 90's.  Several scouts had him up to 95 last spring.  Ranked 64th in the overall rankings is Vanderbilt recruit Reid Schaller, a 6-foot-3, 210 pound RHP up to 93.  




Michael McAveneAt No. 5 and No. 6 are right handers Michael McAvene andAustin Dickey  Austin Dickey.  McAvene lands in at No. 111 in the overall rankings.  The 6-foot-5, 208 pound Purdue recruit was impressive down in Jupiter last month with a fastball up to 91 and pitching five scoreless innings with eigh strikeouts.  Dickey is a 6-foot-4, 190 pound righty committed to Louisville.  Dickey, ranked No. 114 in the overall rankings,  possesses a live arm and a fastball up to 91.  


Andrew Bohm
One of the biggest risers in both the state and overall rankings is Purdue recruit Andrew Bohm, ranked No. 7 in Indiana and No. 140 in the overall rankings .  The RHP stands in at 6-foot-2, 220 pounds pounds and was up to 92 this fall with a sharp 75-77 mph slider with late bite.  






The 8th ranked player in Indiana is another right-hander, WabashDalton Leighty Valley commit 
Dalton Leighty. Leighty, ranked No. 146 in the overall rankings, possesses an 89-91 mph fastball with a quick, athletic arm action.
