2016 Spring Team Preview: Bridgeport Bulldogs

Team Name: Bridgeport Bulldogs
Head Coach: Mike Muklewicz
Division: IV
2015 Record: 20-8
Conference Record: OVAC, 10-4
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 3/1

2016 Team Strengths:

  • One of our strengths this year will be depth. With over 30 ballplayers on the roster, it makes it a lot easier molding a team into what you envision it to be. Defense will also be on our side as we look to back up a very young pitching staff. Offensively, the sticks have a potential to be a strength but remain to be seen. The kids have had a very solid foundation in our hitting philosophies, which we hope translate into good numbers.

2016 Team Weaknesses:

  • Pitching depth will be a key factor in our success this year. There will only be one guy coming back that has a varsity inning under their belt. Our second weakness would be inexperience, which may not end up being a problem if we can bring the team along quickly.

Coach Outlook: "Coming off a 20-8 season, we were subject to the loss of eight seniors. Many of those eight made significant contributions to our success. Despite that fact, we have had a strong JV program the last several years and many of those guys are itching to step up. There is a lot of support and enthusiasm behind our program. Coach Downing has helped shape a great situation to step into especially with myself (Coach Muklewicz) already being involved the past five years. The kids know what I expect from them and how serious my approach is to the game."

PBR Outlook: The Bulldogs are coming off a very successful 2015 season, but see eight seniors gone due to graduation. However a strong program reloads and that is what coach Mike Muklewicz and the Bulldogs expect to do in 2016.

Top Returning Players:

  • Jeremiah Booker, C, 2018, 5'10" 170, Very solid ballplayer all around and behind the plate
