Prep Baseball Report

2017 Indiana Super 60 Preview

By Phil Wade
Indiana Executive Director

This Sunday, February 5th, marks the 15th annual Super 60 showcase hosted by Prep Baseball Report. This prestigious, invitation-only event features only the top draft prospects in the Prep Baseball Report’s 34-state coverage area. Over the last 14 years, the Super 60 has become the most heavily scouted preseason event for potential draft picks. The primary purpose of the Super 60 is to give professional area scouts, cross-checkers and scouting directors a head start to the high school season. The event is for draft-eligible Class of 2017 prospects.

Outlook

Britton:
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Britton is one of the top left-handed hitting prospects in the Midwest. He shows an aggressive approach with quick bat speed, regularly getting the barrel through the zone with whip and producing present gap power to go with occasional homerun power. Behind the dish, he fires consistent 2.0-second pop times with accuracy along with serviceable receiving and blocking skills. He also has the athleticism and speed making him a solid defender in the outfield. Britton ran a 6.95-second 60 at the Area Code workout this past summer.

Coffey: Coffey was one of the top uncommitted players heading into the summer, but increased as a high level Division I prospect and potential 2017 draft. The 6-foot-2, 170 pounder has improved in all facets of his game. He possesses athletic actions at shortstop along with plenty of arm strength. At a PBR event earlier in the year, he ran a 6.68 60. One of the biggest areas of improvement for Coffey this summer was at the plate where he showed good barrel control with more bat speed and an increase in power.

Ferguson: Ferguson has very good upside with his long, projectable, 6-foot-3, 185-pound frame and raw arsenal. He has a free and easy delivery, though he doesn’t always repeat it and tends to rush at times. His fastball sits 87-90 mph, touching 91, with hard, late run. There were reports of him with better velocity at East Coast Pro. His breaking ball is inconsistent, but shows occasional sharp break in the mid 70s.

Jameson: Jameson stands at 6 feet, 165 pounds and has a quick, loose arm from a high-3/4 slot. His fastball has life, sitting 87-90 mph and touching 92. His slider is sharp at 77-81 and he throws it for strikes. He also mixes in a changeup at 82. Primarily a pitcher, Jameson does have two-way ability and can run the 60 in 6.52 seconds.
