2017 Summer recruiting Trail: Players Starting off Strong

By Justin Burgess

With the summer circuit only a couple weeks in, the 2017 recruiting trail is already heating up. Division I schools are really looking to lock up some of these incoming juniors so they don’t lose them to anyone else in the spring. I have seen a few 2017’s this weekend that have really started this summer off strong and should be drawing attention quickly if they have not already.

Oakley Albinson RHP, Indian Rocks Christian 2017

Oakley is a very tall, lean, and projectable pitcher who already has some strength but still has plenty of room to fill out and add muscle. Toward the end of the high school season I saw him sitting in the 84-86 mph range with his fastball, but this summer Oakley has already been up to 89 mph with a sharp 72-75 mph curveball. Albinson is also an excellent and appears to be drawing attention from Duke, Stanford, Richmond, Yale, and Flagler, just to name a few.

Robert Touron RHP, Gulliver Prep 2017

Touron is a lean, athletic, and projectable righty with a loose and whippy arm. He has a ¾ delivery that causes his fastball to have great arm side run. I saw him 86-89 mph with a good 71-74 curveball that breaks late. He is ranked in the top 10 in the state of Florida in our 2017 rankings. Touron should be getting looks from major division I schools, especially those in Florida.

DeAndre Shelton MIF, West Orange HS 2017

Shelton is an athletic player with a lean, compact, and strong body. He has an advanced approach at the plate and ropes consistent hard line drives to all fields. In the field he bounces well, covers a lot of ground, and has soft hands. He is likely a future second baseman but he has plenty of arm for shortstop right now. He may not commit this summer but he will be showcased well playing for the Juice and he is a definite division I prospect.
