On Sunday, October 18th, we hosted the 2017 Underclass Preview Showcase at Grand Park in Westfield, IN.  

Below we analyze the outfielders that participated in the event.

IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER

Chad Colbert, OF, Hamilton Southeastern HS, 2017: 6-foot-1, 160 pounder ran a 7.27-60 and was 73 from the OF.  Plays through the baseball.  Packs during the exchange.  Average footwork.  At the plate hits from a tall, open stance with high hands.  Leg kick.  Hands tend to drop during the load.  Raw mechanically buts shows some athleticism.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 80 mph. 

Logan Conklin, OF, Monroe Central HS, 2017: The 5-foot-11, 175 pound outfielder was 78 from the outfield and ran a 7.25-60.  Defensively, possesses average hands, fields the ball two handed.  Tendency to field the ball deep.  Fluid feet.  At the plate hits from a slightly open setup, loads back.  Stride is short.  Good use of the lower half.  Possesses some hand speed offensively, with a short, uphill path to the baseball.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 80 mph off the tee.  Ran a 7.25-60.

Korry Drum, OF, Columbus North HS, 2017: 5-foot-8, 155 pounder ran a 7.04-60 and was 82 from the OF.  Defensively, showcased above average footwork and sure hands.  Long exchange.  Long, high ¾ arm action.  At the plate hits from a balanced setup.  Smooth load back and short stride.  Bat path is level. Lower half has some stiffness.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 78 mph. 

Hunter Freeman, OF, FW Carroll HS, 2017: 6-foot-1, 155 pound outfielder ran a 7.63-60 and was 71 from the OF.  Raw actions defensively.  Fields the ball like an infielder.  Offensively, hits from a wide stance, loads back.  Minimal to no stride.  Short, level path to the baseball.  Choppy rhythm.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 72 mph. 

Evan Huffman, OF, Southern Wells HS, 2017: Athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 190 pounds.  Ran a 7.08-60 and was 82 from the OF.  Defensively possesses quick, fluid feet.  Clean exchange, long arm action.  Plays through the ball with athleticism.  Offensively, hits from an athletic, balanced setup.  Smooth load, long stride.  Average use of the lower half with good balance.  Possesses above average bat speed.  Level path, ability to get to extension.  Showcased gap-to-gap power.  Consistent hard contact.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 87 mph.  

Gabe Humphrey, OF, Scecina HS, 2017: Long frame at 6-foot-4, 185 pounds.  Ran a 7.75-60 and was 79 from the OF.  Long arm action, ¾ slot.  At the plate this from a balanced setup.  Stride is long.  Average bat speed.  Level swing plane.  Lacks extension.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 79 mph.  

Sam Isaacs, OF, Pendleton Heights HS, 2017: 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, ran a 7.26-60 and was 79 from the OF.  In the field showcased fluid feet with sure hands.  Packs during the exchange.  Short arm action. At the plate this from a balanced setup and loads back.  Stride is short.   Average balance and use of the lower half.  Possesses average bat speed with a level path.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 82 mph.  

Evan Kahre, OF, Evansville Central HS, 2017: 6-foot-1, 155 pounder possesses a lean, athletic frame. Ran a 7.00-60 and was 79 from the OF. Long arm action, ¾ slot.  Plays through the ball.  Average OF actions, projects more in the INF.  At the plate hits from an open stance and loads back.  Stride is short and has good balance.  Approach is good.  Short, level path to the baseball with some rhythm.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 82 mph.  

Corbin Maddox, OF, Daleville HS, 2017: 5-foot-11, 185 pounder was 74 from the OF and ran a 7.05-60.  At a previous event he ran a 6.80-60.  Defensively, possesses fluid feet and sure hands.  Arm action is long.  At the plate hits from an athletic, balanced setup using a short stride.  Average use of the lower half  Good balance.  Bat speed is above average with a good approach to the ball.  Short path, line drive type hitter.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 87 mph. 

Ryan Missal, OF, Lowell HS, 2017: 6-foot-3, 175 pounder ran a 6.80-60 and was 81 from the OF.  Defensively, possesses fluid footwork and soft hands.  Plays through the ball.  Long, high ¾ arm action.  Good athleticism.  Offensively, the LHH hits from a wide stance, smooth load.  Slight leg kick.  Possesses above average bat speed with a level path to the baseball.  Line drive type hitter that showed the ability to drive the gaps.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 88 mph.  

Shaine Mitchell, OF, Brebeuf HS, 2017: 5-foot-6, 135 pounds, ran a 7.00-60 and was 75 from the OF.  Quick, fluid footwork in the field.  Long arm action.  Possesses sure hands and plays through the baseball with athleticsm.  Switch hitter at the plate.  From the left side hits from a balanced setup, small toe-tap.  Smooth load.  Good balance.  Average bat speed.  Short, level path to the baseball.  Pretty much a mirrored swing from the right side.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 78 mph off the tee.   

Jarrod Moon, OF, Carmel HS, 2017: 6-foot, 185 pounder ran a 7.37-60 and was 73 from the OF.  Defensively, possesses flat feet.  Fields the ball deep.  Lacks premium foot speed.  Short arm action.  At the plate hits from a wide stance, no stride.  Loads back.  Lower half lacks involvement.  Long path to the baseball.  Has some stiffness at the plate.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 74 mph off the tee. 

Luis Munoz, OF, Seymour HS, 2017: 5-foot-10, 150 pound outfielder ran a 7.76-60 and was 75 from the OF.  Long, loose high ¾ arm action.  Lacks elite foot speed.  Plays through the baseball.  Offensively, hits from a tall, open setup with a smooth load.  Stride is short and gets average use of the lower half.  Shows good balance throughout the swing.  Possesses some quick twitch at the plate, but needs to add strength.  Short path to the baseball, line drive type hitter.  Good approach at the plate.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 68 mph off the tee. 

Ben Nisle, OF, Lake Central HS, 2017: Athletic 6-foot-2, 180 pounds ran a 6.76-60 and was 94 from the OF.  Possesses quick feet defensively with solid actions.  Plenty of arm strength with carry.  At the plate hits from an athletic setup, no load.  Stride is short with average use of the lower half.  Good balance throughout.  Possesses quick bat speed.  Long, slightly uphill swing plane.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 96 off the tee.  

Adam Quigley, OF, Lawrence North HS, 2017: 5-foot-11, 175 pound outfielder ran a 7.35-60 and was 73 from the field.  Displayed average actions in the outfield.  Moves well, but lacks elite foot speed.  At the plate hits out of slightly open, crouch setup.  Loads back, long stride.  Tendency to dive.  Average balance in the swing.  Level path to the baseball.  Finishes wide and one handed.  Made hard contact during BP, recorded a high exit velocity of 78 mph off the tee.
