2019 Future Games Day 3 -Team Nevada vs. Team California

Buddy Gouldsmith
Nevada Scouting Director

Team Nevada took on Team California in a late morning meeting of the west coast foes. The game was a pitching duel, until California broke the 0-0 deadlock with a two out double down the right field line that plated the first run of the game. Offensively, Team Nevada failed to mount much of an attack. They appeared to have something going following back to back singles by ’21 Andrew Maxwell and ’21 Aric Anderson, but with runners at 1st and 3rd, now outs, Nevada failed to push across a run following a strikeout and inning ending double play. Nevertheless, the efforts of ’21 Elie Kligman and Maxwell are worth noting.

’21 Elie Kligman, SS/RHP (Cimarron Memorial) tossed three scoreless innings. Kligman featured a four-pitch mix, led by a fastball ranging 83-84 consistently down in the zone. He throws two breaking balls, curveball 66-68 and slider 75-76. He features a changeup as well 73 -74. He displays solid pitch definition among the off-speed and good feel for the sinking changeup. He was competitive on the bump, working out of jams created by defensive miscues. Kligman also gathered one of three hits on the day for Team Nevada with a single in the first.

’21 Andrew Maxwell, SS (Silverado) Lean, 6-foot 150, Maxwell has a naturalness to his game that requires multiple looks for true appreciation. At the plate, Maxwell made consistent hard contact with a line drive base hit, line drive out and a well driven ball to left field. In the field, he made a variety of plays, showing a feel for multiple arm slots and touch throws on slow rollers, double play feeds, ground balls in the six hole as well as up the middle.
