2019 OHSAA Tournament: Division I Regional Semifinal - No. 2 New Albany vs No. 22 Upper Arlington

Dublin - After some rain earlier in the day, it turned into a beautiful day for baseball between #2 New Albany Eagles (29-2) and #22 Upper Arlington Golden Bears (21-9) in the D1 regional final. It was expected to be a pitchers duel with 2020 RHP Indiana commit Jack Sokol on the mound for the Eagles and 2019 Denison commit Charlie Fleming getting the ball for the Bears. In the end the Bear lineup was too hot for the Eagles to handle, giving Sokol the loss and Fleming the win.

Both teams put the pressure on early with runners on base, but could not score. Upper Arlington final got the scoring started in the 4th with 2 runs, including a RBI single from Ben Krimm. The Bears got 2 more in the 5th thanks to a Bellarmine commit Tommy Dilz RBI single and a RBI double from Wright State commit Sammy Sass (one of his 3 doubles on the day) to take a 4-0 lead in the 4th. New Albany was able to get one back in the 5th thanks to a James Stevens RBI double. The Bears added another in the 6th from a Sass double to make it 5-1. The Eagles had some life in the 7th , scoring one and had the tying run at the plate. But Fleming finished what he started and was able to secure his team a chance for a regional title.

The Golden Bears were lead by Sass, who was 4-4 with a single and 3 doubles. Dilz and Krimm both had 2 hits for the Bears as well. Fleming had a great day on the mound, his fastball was explosive today (87-89). The Eagles offense was led by two hits from Stevens and two hits from Jacob Cooper in the nine hole. The Golden Bears will have a chance to play for a spot in the D1 state Final Four against Hilliard Darby.
