2019 OHSAA Tournament: Division I Regional Semifinal - No. 6 Lancaster vs No. 20 Hilliard Darby

Dublin, Ohio- A rainy, overcast day at Dublin Coffman High School featured a D1 regional semi-final game between #6 Lancaster Golden Gales (26-4) vs #20 Hilliard Darby Panthers (23-7). ’20 RHP Casey Fink got the ball for the Gales and ended up with the loss. ’19 RHP Seth Schmidt got the ball and the win for the Panthers for his complete game performance.

The scoring started early for both teams as Wright State commit Andrew Patrick led off the game with a single and a stolen base. Paxton Schwandt followed with a double that would score Patrick and give the Panthers a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Lancaster responded in the bottom half of the inning with a Fink double and then a tree clearing 2 run homerun from Wes Ward. Darby was able to tie it in the second with a RBI single from Ryan Eatherton. The Panthers threatened in the fourth with a runner on third but an amazing diving stop from Ward and throw to the plate kept the run from scoring. But Darby was able to score a run in the 5th and 2 runs in the 6th. Lancaster tried to rally back, scoring one in the 6th but Schmidt shut the door and the game.

Patrick led the way for the Panthers, going 3-4 at the plate. Schmidt went 7 innings allowing only 2 runs. For the Golden Gales, Evan Sines and Fink both had 2 hits. Ward had the homerun and plus defense all game long. In the end, the Panthers were too much for the Gales, winning by a score of 5-3 and advancing to the regional final.
