2019 Tournament 12: Senior Uncommitted Arms

Vic Domingo RHP / 3B / Saint Thomas More Collegiate, BC / 2020

Report: Domingo, a strong right-hander from British Columbia, stands at 5-foot-10, 190-pounds and dominated during his two innings of work at T12 with his fastball/curveball combination. His arm works quick and he fills up the zone. Heavy fastball sits 87-88, topping out at 89 and had lots of swing and miss, especially when he was working up in the zone. Had feel for the curveball at 71-74 mph and hitters had a difficulty adjusting to the change of speeds. He repeats, is compact, on time and the ball jumps and gets on hitters quickly. 2020 coaches need to be on now, as he most likely won’t be around later.

Drew Howard RHP / SS / All Saints, ON / 2020

Report: Howard had a good summer on the mound and T12 may have been his best performance. The Toronto Mets right-hander was up to 91 during the Prospects Game and both innings he pitched for Team Red were clean innings. He’s loose on the mound, the arm speed is there and there’s torque in the delivery. Fastball sat 88-89 in his first outing and he commanded his curveball that had 11/5 shape and late biting action. There was a lot of swing and miss from right-handed hitters and it looked to be a big step forward in his development this week. He also showed more feel for a changeup than we’ve seen in the past, showing the capability to be a starter at the next level.

Gavin Pringle RHP / NA, BC / 2020

Report: Pringle is a right-hander from the West Coast with a big, strong frame at 6-foot-2, 220-pounds. He works downhill, really gets on top of hitters and fires from a ¾ arm-slot. Really filled up the zone with five strikeouts and no walks during his three innings. It’s a live arm and the fastball works 87-89 mph with swings and misses. His 77 mph slider is his best secondary offering at the moment and while there is still room to polish up his off-speed and become more consistent, Pringle has continued to make strides and find it tough to believe he is still uncommitted.

Maddux Mateychuk RHP / Vauxhall Academy of Baseball, AB / 2020

Report: Mateychuk was one of a few, true power arms we saw this week with the 6-foot-1, 195-pound Vauxhall product touching 92 mph. The arm is long in the back and he has a strong lower-half. Fastball had a lot of swing and miss with three strikeouts in his two innings and sat 89-91. Limited viewing of his secondary stuff and if he develops that over the winter, Mateychuk will be an arm both college coaches and pro scouts will want to get eyes on.

Cedric Degrandpre 1B / RHP / Academie Baseball Canada, QC / 2020

Report: De Grandpre’s strength and athleticism stood out on the mound during his two innings of work and you’ve got to like the frame at 6-foot-2, 195-pounds. It’s a quick, repeatable and low-stress delivery while creating extension out front. His ability to control both his fastball and curveball allowed him to pick-up four strikeouts. Fastball sat comfortably at 88-89 in his second outing while the curveball was 73-74 from the same tunnel as his fastball. An interesting prospect who could help a program on the offensive side of the ball as well, De Grandpre should be a highly touted prospect from Quebec in the 20’ class.

Lukas Touma RHP / 1B / William Lyon Mackenzie CI, ON / 2020

Report: Touma, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound right-hander, worked two innings and was tough to hit in the second once he found the feel for his curveball. Second inning saw several swings and misses on both the fastball and curveball, while the fastball was sitting steady at 86-87 mph. Quick and compact on the mound, Touma pitches from a ¾ arm-slot and does a good job of controlling and repeating his delivery. The arm is and has always been loose out of his ¾ slot while the off-speed is the separator for him, especially when he is feeling his curveball. 2020 grad with stuff, actions, and still room to mature physically.

Mathew Duffy 3B / RHP / Assumption, ON / 2020

Report: Duffy is a well proportioned right-hander with a three-pitch mix that fills up the zone while he attacks and throws strikes. The arm is clean in the back, gets up on time and works out front to both sides of the plate with his fastball that sat at 86-88 during his T12 outing. The breaking ball worked out the same window, getting swings and misses with late action and 11/5 shape.  He kept hitters timing off and was in the drivers seat for this entire outing. Duffy is a 2020 arm you need to be on sooner than later.
