Damon Alvis
Assistant Indiana Scouting Director

On Saturday Oct. 13th we hosted our 2021-2022 Prospect Showcase. Due to cold weather we moved the usual outdoor showcase indoors to the Roundtripper Sports Academy in Westfield, IN. Below are a few quick reactions from this past weekend’s showcase.

Stats from the event can be found HERE

TWO WAY TALENT

+ Ultra athletic with a current strong build, 2021 David Novak stood out with his tool set. Novak showed soft hands with a strong arm across the diamond at 86 during infield workouts. At the plate the right handed hitting Novak showcased a simple swing with pop in the bat and posted an exit velo of 87. On the mound he possesses a quick arm from the right side with a FB up to 85 and a sharp late CB at 72. Behind the dish he displayed sound footwork and looks to be a solid receiver.

+ 2022 C/RHP Carter Dixon impressed with his two ability at the event. A primary catcher, Dixon showased a quick exchange behind the dish with sound footwork. Pops ranged from 2.03-2.13. At the plate he flashed power potential with the ability to spray line drives from the right side and posted the top exit velo at 88. On the mound he showed a clean arm stroke and repeats well from a high ¾ arm slot. FB was up to 83 at the event.

+ 2021 OF/LHP Carter Mathison showcased a nice two way ability. At the plate the left handed hitting Mathison showed feel for the barrel with a quick bat through the zone and posted an exit velo of 84. In the OF he showed fluid footwork with a strong arm at 82. On the mound Mathison has a repeatable delivery with some deception. FB sat 77-78 with more in the tank and also spun one of the best CB at the event with depth and 2/8 shape at 62-65.

+ 2022 Caiden Toney displayed a raw tool set at the event standing out with his quick bat from the right side and ability to lift the baseball. In the infield he showed some quick twitch with feel for the position. Arm strength is developing, but was 78 across the diamond. On the mound he ran his FB up to 76.

LEFT HANDED PITCHING

+ 2022 LHP Ryan Donley impressed during his bullpen session and showed arguably the best projection on the mound. The young lefty has a tall 6-foot-2 lanky frame and pitches from a high ¾ slot with good extension out in front as he works downhill. His arm stroke is clean and somewhat long, but the ball jumps out of his hand. FB sat 75-76 with more velo to come down the line with added strength to frame. He showed good feel for a CB at 62-64 that is tight with short, late break and feel for a CH at 65-68.

+ 2021 LHP Cole Elkins has a physical presence on the mound with his strong built frame. Showed good tempo throughout delivery to the plate with a quick short arm stroke. He pounded the zone with his FB that sat 78-81 with life at times. Also showed feel for a CB that showed depth with 2/8 shape at 66-68.
