Scouting Report

9/24/20

Vanderbilt Commit, 6-foot-3, 177-pound right-hander is currently 7th overall in the PBR National Rankings.  In his first outing since late July, Robinson shook off any rust and continued to show why he’s one of the top young arms in the country.  Long, lanky frame with quiet, repeatable delivery and great body control.  FB jumped out of the hand at 87-91, T92 with late life and slight arm side action.  Leaned on his CB at 71-73 to generate chases down in the zone and locating for strikes.  Struggled landing his 78-80 mph SL early, but found his groove and showed flashes of being his go-to breaking ball of the future with good deception and hard bite.

6/06/20

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Vandy Commit was impressive in his 55-pitch outing.  Long, lanky frame with great projection and showed good body control.  Quick arm working up to 3/4 slot.  FB had great ride through the zone at 88-92 early (1860-1943rpm via Trackman) w/ some late action.  Mixed 11/5 CB at 70-73 w/ proper shape and good bite.  Showed advanced hard CH at 85 with late fade action.

9/19/19

The 6-foot-3, 177-pound right hander was outstanding all summer.  Robinson ran his fastball up to 91, while working 86-90 w/ late life and good spin.  Very projectable frame, w/ loose lightning quick arm and low effort delivery. Robinson has also shown three off speed offerings w/ sharp slider at 74-76, curveball at 70-73, and changeup at 70-73.  Became the first commit of the class, committing to Vanderbilt in late August.

5/02/19

8th grader is as advanced of an 8th grader as this evaluator has ever seen, combining a rare combination of present velocity, feel to pitch, feel for spin, projection and command.  Tall, athletic frame w/ well-proportioned lean strength throughout, super projectable.  Pitches from a full wind-up into H ¾ release from the first base side of the rubber.  Simple, repeatable delivery w/ a lightning quick arm, teasing at velocity potential as the frame fills out.  Low effort throw.  Extension w/ downhill plane.  Straight FB shows occasional short cut to his glove-side corner, occasional short arm-side run to his arm-side corner.  Medium downer CB w/ proper shape and rotation.  Flashes late bite w/ depth.  ¾ tilt SL, chance to be an impact pitch.  Flashes tight rotation, depth.  Will run into the CB at times, but is more distinct than you typically see of two breaking balls at this age.  CH flashes arm-speed w/ fade and occasional sink.  Will occasionally slow his body down on all his off-speed offering.  Strike-thrower filled the zone on this day, 50 of 81 for strikes, including 14 of 18 on his CB.  Shows an ability to pitch to both sides of the plate with his FB, shows an ability to pitch w/ intent w/ his secondary stuff.  Projects to command.
