2022 Spring Team Preview: Barnstable

HYANNIS, Ma. - Six starters are back bringing optimism to the 2022 baseball fortunes at Barnstable.

“We feel confident that we will be solid on defense and should have the ability to produce runs offensively,” explained head coach Dave Fouracre.

Senior captain Will Jones headlines the starters returning that also includes senior first baseman Dylan Hammons, junior shortstop Coley Buckler and senior left fielder Braden Burke.

“Will is the spark that ignites us both offensively and defensively,” Fouracre said of his starting second baseman. “Will’s ability to get on base from the leadoff spot gives us the opportunity to score early. On the field he has great range and the ability to make the ‘big play.’”

A pair of junior left-handed hitters are also back from a year ago in center fielder Shea Semprini, the 43rd-rated 2023 outfielder in New England, and Vinny Digiacomo, who returns to play right field.

Three other letterwinners are also ready to make contributions this year in senior captain Ben Tarbox, a pitcher, Alec Joyce, a third baseman, and Zac Baxter, a catcher.

But the concern is on the mound.

“We lost three out of our four top pitchers, most notably Ryan Buckler, who transferred to the Winchendon School and just recently signed a letter-of-intent to play D-I baseball at Virginia Tech,” related Fouracre. Buckler is the ninth-ranked 2023 right-handed pitcher in New England.

Tarbox is being counted on to lead the way on the mound along with Buckler and DiGiacomo.

“Ben is a selfless player, it’s always TEAM FIRST with him,” Fouracre said. “Ben was a two-way player for us last year seeing action both as a pitcher and first baseman. This year, because of a lack of pitching, Ben is focused on being a pitcher-only with hopes of becoming our number one.”

Also looking to help fill the void at pitcher this season are seniors Colin McGowan and Nolan Turner along with junior Colton Henderson.
